The Stone Vanguard is a very tough opponent so take some time to level up and improve your Spells particularly Immobilize as it can give you enough time to heal and get a full combo in. Go left from the Rockrest Flat Shrine once you’re ready and prepare to get squashed. From the start of the fight the Vanguard will come at you hard and heavy with slams and pounds some of which will create a nova that will knock you down to the ground so make good use of the Pillar Stance if you have points in it then continue to punish as the Vanguard recovers.

Every so often the Stone Vanguard will perform a series of punches whilst launching enemies at you before launching itself into the air with 2 minions slamming down on your position and as the camera tracks the boss this can be tough to dodge out of the way of. Ensure you keep yourself above half health to increase your chances of survival.

Try and hit the Vanguard from behind as much as you can as it doesn’t really have any offence from behind, you might need to dodge out of the way from the occasional swipe but for the most part it’s open season so use your best attacks to punish until it turns around and re-engages you.

Immobilize and Cloud Step can help a fair amount in the fight as can transforming which can save your life, inflict a lot of damage or both depending on when you transform with waiting for a combo to be finished the best time unless you are just about to die then transforming will give you a chance to heal after taking some hits then continue the offence until you manage to take the win.
