Borderlands 4 Legendary SMGs

Here we will go over where you can find all of the Borderlands 4 Legendary SMGs which are incredibly fast firing high damage dealing weapons which usually have some sort of elemental damage attached to them which only serves to increases their effectiveness. Legendaries are some of the best items you can equip in Borderlands 4 and for the most part they are incredibly powerful / useful items which can carry you through some of the tougher missions. Don’t get me wrong them some of the legendary SMGs in Borderlands 4 are complete duds and whose only use is to be sold save for some strict use cases.

Bare in mind there are many variations of SMGs but the base name will always be the same. The prefix will determine the type of attachments that a given gun will have, you might have a completely different prefix which can lead to some confusion but ultimately the legendary itself will have varying levels of efficacy based on the prefix you receive.

Legendary SMGs

The Legendary SMGs I have managed to find in Borderlands 4 so far are:

Birt's Bees

Location: RNG drop from the Sludgemaw boss you can find in the All Charged Up side mission.
Ability: Hivemind.
Brand: VLADOF.
Synopsis. The Birt’s Bees is a very powerful SMG that fires Bees which home in on targets, swarming them and inflicting decent burn damage per hit. The version I managed to find also came with a Flamethrower which deals an incredible amount of damage to flesh based enemies (red health bar).

Darkbeast

Location: RNG drop from the Voraxis boss at the back of the Timid Kyle’s Neglected Opening Auger Mine in the Fadefields.
Ability: Parley, bullets pierce enemies, and have a 5% chance when hitting an enemy to cause an explosion that deals 663 damage.
Brand: Daedalus.
Synopsis: The Darkbeast is a very good SMG as SMGs go and is a top tier weapon in the entire game damage wise. Each round has a small chance of exploding, causing heavy damage against the enemy. If you manage to get a Darkbeast with an elemental effect then that effect usually inflicts damage over time causing even more damage. Quite simply, the Darkbeast eats health bars and is ravenous for more!. Get one.

Frangible

Location: RNG drop from Gun vending machines.
Ability: None.
Brand: Daedalus.
Synopsis: The Frangible SMG has no place being a legendary in Borderlands 4, it has no ability and it also comes with an 8% chance of dealing 0 damage. All in all this is a troll SMG with no business being anywhere near anyone’s inventory. One for the most devout of collectors but not one for anyone looking at killing any enemies.

Hellfire

Location: RNG drop from the Icebox World boss.
Ability: Burning Desire.
Brand: Ripper.
Synopsis: If you have any enemy who is weak to fire which is virtually everything with a red health bar then equip the Hellfire SMG and melt through the crowds. This thing is an absolute beast only let down by its relatively mid sized magazine. You would be surprised how many bosses are weak to fire, equip the Hellfire SMG and just cook anything in your path. It is less effective against shielded and armoured targets but for everything else it’s burnt BBQ time!.

Kaoson

Location: RNG drop from Red Weapons Chests.
Ability: Granted.
Brand: Vladof.
Synopsis: The Kaoson is a very powerful SMG which fires sticky rounds which explodes when you reload causing incredibly damage. It is rare to find a sticky SMG and given the magazine size and accuracy this is definitely in the top leagues of SMGs.

Luty Madlad

Location: RNG drop from Mimicron in the Tipping Point Order Bunker.
Ability: Homemade Ingenuity: Overheats quickly, but also cools down quickly.
Brand: Daedalus.
Synopsis: The Luty Madlad SMG is more of a gimmick than a functional SMG as it essentially works the same way any other small magazine SMG does as it heats up quickly, essentially reloads as it cools down then heats up again. It does get a bit better in burst fire but this SMG is more for the collectors than being one you should farm for.

Prince Harming

Location: RNG drop from the Bango boss in the Tendercage Ripper Drill Site.
Ability: Pamplemousse, hitting enemies deals 111 damage to you, and grants a stack of Cruelty which, on kill, restores 56 Overshield per stack of Cruelty. For a maximum of 30 stacks.
Brand: Ripper.
Synopsis: This is a Legendary SMG which will kill you faster than it will kill your enemies. It’s OK and only OK against low level mobs or if you happen to have a massive health / shield as every time you hit an enemy it will take 111 damage from you. Yes it gives you Overshield once you kill an enemy but if you use this thing against any sort of Elite / Badass / boss then you will be down in seconds as they don’t die easy. One for the collectors or the Narcissit’s this one.

Ohm I Got

Location: RNG drop from Moon-Maddened Callis.
Ability: Energy Transfer, when energy shield is active, grants +50% damage by consuming the Shield’s energy instead of ammo. When Overshield is also active, energy Shield will not deplete.
Brand: Maliwan.
Synopsis: The Ohm I Got is an incredibly good shock based SMG and one which excels at shredding shields, however, it draws its power from your own shield so if you have a large health pool it’s not so bad, but, if like most players out there you rely on your Shield to keep you from going into Fight for your Life then draining it to cause damage probably isnt the best move. Mid tier overall this one as the risk reward element just pushes it down the tables.

Onslaught

Location: RNG drop from Idolator Sol.
Ability: Keep It Coming, there’s a 30% chance for every bullet fired o deal extra damage and not consume ammo.
Brand: Vladof.
Synopsis: All I can say about this gun is the Developers must have been working a minigun section for their guns then abandoned it but kept the Onslaught and filed into the SMG category. This gun is an absolute Beast!, it will fire for days and with the 30% chance to not consume ammo and deal extra damage you will be hard pressed to find an enemy in Borderlands 4 who can tank rounds from this weapon. Get to Idolator Sol’s fortress and farm him until you get one. Stop reading these and get. You can come back when you have one.

Plasma Coil

Location: RNG drop from Primordial Guardian Timekeeper.
Ability: Superheated.
Brand: Maliwan.
Synopsis: The Plasma Coil is a fantastically overpowered SMG especially if you’re playing as Vex and have enhanced her Elemental Damage output as this thing will switch between Shock and Radiation then fire a series of explosive orbs albeit slowly but once they hit they do very good damage especially if your target(s) are weak to those elements.

That’s all of the Borderlands 4 Legendary SMGs I have found so far, do you know of any I’m missing? Let me know.
