Elder Jinchi is a powerful boss who you can only access once you have rung all 3 Bells in the Black Wind Mountain Forest of Wolves and Bamboo Grove regions as well as having taken down Guangmou, Guanzhi and the Whiteclad Noble bosses. You do also need to ensure you have defeated and absorbed the spirit of the Wandering Wight boss as if you defeat Elder Jinchi before the Wandering Wight you will lock yourself out of a good deal of important items, bosses, weapons and more. Refer to the Temple of Taint trophy guide for details on where all 3 bells can be found if you need a full guide or in a nutshell, ring the 3 bells behind the 3 aforementioned bosses to access the Ancient Guanyin Temple biome.
When you are in the temple grounds ensure you loot the Guanyin’s Prayer Beads Armguards from the middle chest to the right of the Grand Chamber Shrine as you will need these for the Mantled with Might trophy then head up the stairs and start the fight with Elder Jinchi who can be a tough one to bring down at this early stage of the game. As you will have taken down the Wandering Wight you will know roughly what to expect from Elder Jinchi as he is the same species except Jinchi hits harder, faster and has a lot of disciples around the arena who change the flow of the fight depending on what it is Jinchi is doing.
Unlike the Whiteclad Noble you will have fought, Elder Jinchi is a 1 stage boss so don’t hold back with your Spells, just get in there and give him a good pasting whilst avoiding the swipes and stomps then back away quickly when he slams his hand into the ground and creates an AOE blast which usually gets followed up by a powerful energy blast you need to avoid as it can easily half health you or worse if you have already taken a beating.
When Elder Jinchi gets down to half health he will go into a tance state and become immune to damage, this is a dangerous portion of the fight as his disciples will start walking towards him and if they get close they will be sacrificed restoring a fair amount of health so be fast and effective running up to each of them, hitting them once to kill them until Elder Jinchi comes out of his transient state. If you were to slow Jinchi will have restored most or some of his health so the fight will now take longer than if you removed all of the disciples where he will then stay at half health.
Jinchi will be more aggressive and his disciples have a higher chance of coming near you and exploding during the 2nd half of the fight so dodge the attacks, disciples and energy blasts whilst returning your own attacks, spells and use the Red Tides transformation to inflict burn damage as well as protecting your own health bar until you manage to bring Elder Jinchi down. Once Elder Jinchi has been defeated you won’t be able to access the Ancient Guanyin Temple again and also look up to the left once you are back in the Bamboo Grove, Marsh of White Mist biome to see a Wolf hanging from the tree, interact with it to receive the Fireproof Mantle Vessel.
