Location: The New West, New Thunderclap Temple, Temple Entrance.
Reward: Hoarfrost Transformation Spell.
Before you go after the Monk from the Sea, ensure you equip the Froustsprout Twig Curios you will have received as a reward from taking down the Captain Lotus-Vision boss boss as the Monk will hit you hard and fast with more Frost than you will have come up against in the game so far and in various different ways. The Monk has a high defence and incredibly hard hitting attacks that can easily take you out in one combo or if they don’t they will usually freeze you in place where, with fast moving, long range attack you will struggle to survive the onslaught.
The main issue with the Monk is his range which is next level in Black Myth Wukong as this guy can smack from around 10 paces and lunge into the attacks to increase the range. The 3 hit combo will come out of nowhere and hit and each hit can freeze you or at least build up freeze so dodge through each of the attacks in quick succession then punish with a few attacks before the Monk recovers.
Another nasty attack he has is a charged tentacle thrust from his chest cavity which can half health you as well as freeze you in an instant as can the strange move he does by raising himself up on the tentacles then slamming down on the ground creating an ice nova.
Take care to avoid the fast moving snowballs that will come your way then watch for fast follow up attacks. Using the Red Tides transformation will be a good way to inflict some heavy damage as will Cloud Step to create a decoy allowing you to heal then refocus your attacks. This is definitely one of the tougher fights in The New West so don’t be surprised if you take a good few attempts before you put the Monk from the Sea down, you will then be able to absorb his corpse to unlock the Hoarfrost transformation.
