Here we will go over how to complete the Black Myth Wukong Rusty Carts quest which will help you take down 4 bosses as well as enter the secret area of the Flaming Mountains, Bishui Caves which is necessary for many different reasons including a new staff, an armour set albeit there are only 3 pieces you can craft on your first playthrough if you follow along with the chapter 5 walkthrough as well as one of the toughest bosses in the game who is waiting to ambush you.
The Rusty Carts are, for the most part bosses, 2 of which are blocking the main path, another is roaming a more open area but the Cart can also use this to it’s advantage to speed around and ram into you then the final cart requires you to have spoken with the Pale-Axe Stalwart who will be a boss turned ally once you beat him as well as lay Ma Tianba to rest unlocking Urge Unfulfilled.
Rusty Carts Quest
All in all there is a fair amount to do so I will break the Rusty Carts quest down into a step by step guide as there will be some back and forth you need to do, then as long as you follow along you will be able to take down every boss and do anything else required to complete the quest and open the way to Bishui Caves with the steps being:
Defeat Pale-Axe Stalwart
Location: Flaming Mountains, Woods of Ember, Ashen Pass I.
The Pale-Axe Stalwart will be the first boss you need to defeat in the Flaming Mountains.
Defeat Brown-Iron Cart
Location: Flaming Mountains, Woods of Ember, Ashen Pass I.
Once you have dealt with the Pale-Axe Stalwart, rest at the shrine if you need to then once you’re ready climb the stairs and defeat the Brown-Iron Cart boss.
Speak With Pale-Axe Stalwart
Location: Flaming Mountains, Woods of Ember, Ashen Pass I.
With the Brown-Iron Cart boss defeated, go back down and speak with the Pale-Axe Stalwart exhausting his dialogue.
Defeat Gray-Bronze Cart
Location: Flaming Mountains, Woods of Ember, Height of Ember.
The Gray-Bronze Cart boss can be found by either following the path behind the Father of Stones boss through the enemies then running up the slope or by dropping down to the left on the downhill slope once through the gate, healing then sprinting to cover. Either way, defeat the Cart then pay attention to your resources as directly after will be the Quick as Fire, Fast as Wind boss.
Speak With Ma Tianba
Location: Flaming Mountains, Furnace Valley, Valley Entrance.
Before you speak with Ma Tianba in the Valley Entrance region I strongly recommend you equip the Fireproof Mantle Vessel as it will negate any damage received from walking on lava then once you’re ready, go forward then take a right pass the first Earth Rakshasa then go over to the solid ground on your right, clear the enemies which then allows you to speak with Ma Tianba whose whip is hanging from the Carts mouth (all part of Urge Unfulfilled).
Defeat Crimson-Silver Cart
Location: Flaming Mountains, Furnace Valley, Emerald Hall.
The Crimson-Silver Cart boss can be found up the slopes from the throne room in the Emerald Hall region. Defeat it.
Speak With Pale-Axe Stalwart Again
Location: Flaming Mountains, Furnace Valley, Emerald Hall.
Once the Crimson-Silver Cart boss has been defeated, go forward to the Ashen Pass III shrine, rest then fast travel back to the Emerald Hall. From here you need to go back to the area where you defeated the Crimson-Silver Cart boss and speak to the Pale-Axe Stalwart exhausting his dialogue.
Ma Tianba Dies
Location: Flaming Mountains, Furnace Valley, Valley Entrance.
Return to Ma Tianba in the Valley Entrance who will still be trapped inside the Cart, however, he will now have accepted his fate and pass away as you rip the whip from the Carts mouth. This will unlock the Dark Thunder Transformation as well as unlocking Urge Unfulfilled as long as you haven’t missed Ma Tianba in the previous 4 locations throughout the game.
Access Cooling Slope
Location: Flaming Mountains, Field of Fire, Furnace Valley Crater.
Rest at the Ashen Pass III shrine then go forward where the spinning ball will begin its patrol. You need to avoid the ball by running into the cut-outs most of which have enemies in fast enough before the ball hits you as it will be an instant kill if you are touched. At the end, Zhu Bajie will smash the ball down into the abyss (go to the Emerald Hall region then climb the slope to find the ball you can pull the Top Takes Bottom, Bottom Takes Top Spirit from) then follow Pingping to the Red Boy boss fight.
After the Red Boy has been defeated he will turn into the Yaksha King which, as per the Chapter 5 walkthrough I strongly recommend you lose to thus placing you back at the Furnace Valley Crater shrine. From here you can then go back down the hill and take a left with the Plantain Fan having extinguished the inferno you can go down the hill where there are 2 optional bosses as well as some other goodies along the way to the Cooling Slope shrine.
Defeat Rusty-Gold Cart
Location: Flaming Mountains, Field of Fire, Cooling Slope.
Now that you’re at the Cooling Slope, equip your best gear then go through to the open area where the Rusty-Gold Cart boss will be chewing on the Pale-Axe Stalwart. Defeat the Cart where you will also receive the Flame Orb Curios.
Pale-Axe Stalwart Dies
Location: Flaming Mountains, Field of Fire, Cooling Slope.
Once the Rusty-Gold Cart boss has been defeated you can then speak with the Pale-Axe Stalwart over to the right of the area as you enter the arena who will then pass away unlocking the door at the back of the area.
Access Bishui Caves
Location: Flaming Mountains, Field of Fire, Cooling Slope.
With the Rusty-Gold Cart boss defeated and the Pale-Axe Stalwart having passed away the way through to the Bishui Caves will now be unlocked. On your way down through the cavern, ensure you go over to the left where you can find and defeat the Baw-Lang-Lang boss which will count towards A Clamor of Frogs then once you’re ready touch the pillar to enter the Bishui Caves.
