Here we will go over how you can begin and complete the Black Myth Wukong Third Prince quest which can be started in the Pagoda Realm and won’t be completed until you get to New Thunderclap Temple the majority of which is done in the third chapter of the game, The New West. The quest technically starts in Yellow Wind Ridge when you speak to the Rat Guai who is hiding from the 2 Rat Captains although I am unsure if this step is required so we’ll add it just in case and will need to be completed before defeating the Yellow Wind Sage boss.
Update: Upon further playing I can now confirm, if you don’t speak with the Rat Guai in the Yellow Wind Ridge and instead go through the quest as normal you will then need to take down a technically secret boss who’s name is in Chinese although it looks and moves like the Rat Captains. The boss can be found above the Third Prince’s cell. Follow the speech and you’ll find the Rat Captain soon enough. Defeat it to unlock Ashen Slumber.
You will have a fair amount to do as you progress through the Third Prince quest including looting corpses, taking down optional bosses and collecting unusable Spirits which need to be returned to the Prince. Given the amount you need to do here and the order you need to do the tasks I will break the guide down step by step to help you not miss anything which will be as follows:
- Step 1: Speak to the Hidden Rat.
- Step 2 Speak to the Prisoner.
- Step 3: Defeat Captain Lotus-Vision.
- Step 4: Absorb the Spirit of Captain Lotus-Vision.
- Step 5: Defeat Captain Wise-Voice.
- Step 6: Absorb the Spirit of Captain Wise-Voice.
- Step 7: Absorb the Spirit of Captain Void-Illusion.
- Step 8: Defeat the Captain Kalpa-Wave boss.
- Step 9: Absorb the Spirit of Captain Kalpa-Wave.
- Step 10: Return to the Third Prince.
- Rewards.
Step 1: Speak To The Hidden Rat
Location: Yellow Wind Ridge, Sandgate Village, Village Entrance.
Go through to the large open area and defeat the 2 Rat Captains who are in patrol whilst avoiding the Archers and other enemies in the local area, they can all be killed if needs be but the Rat Captains are the priority as once they’re done they won’t respawn upon resting at a shrine. With them both dead, go to the back of the area and up the hill to your left where you can speak to a Rat Guai who has barricaded themselves behind some rocks in fear of the Captains. The Rat will tell you of the Third Prince in a prison.
Step 2: Speak To The Prisoner
Location: The New West, Pagoda Realm, Lower Pagoda.
After defeating the Kang-Jin Loong boss you will awaken in a prison. Rest at the Lower Pagoda shrine then go left to the room with the purple seal and speak to the prisoner inside the cell ensuring you exhaust all of the dialogue.
Step 3: Defeat Captain Lotus-Vision
Location: The New West, Pagoda Realm, Upper Pagoda.
You will be able to face the optional Captain Lotus-Vision boss by going to the Upper Pagoda shrine then turning around before carefully dropping down to the rooftops then the arena below. Heal up the start the fight which I strongly recommend doing when your enraged state ends for a short period. Defeat it.
Step 4: Absorb The Spirit Of Captain Lotus-Vision
Location: The New West, Pagoda Realm, Upper Pagoda.
With the Captain Lotus-Vision boss defeated ensure you absorb the Spirit of Captain Lotus-Vision which not only counts as 1 of the 4 Spirits the Third Prince needs you will have also removed all of the purple seals from the Pagoda Realm granting you access to every previously inaccessible cell including the Third Prince’s.
Step 5: Defeat Captain Wise-Voice
Location: The New West, Pagoda Realm, Mani Wheel.
The Captain Wise-Voice boss is a story one, however, before you take it down you will need to firstly ensure you have collected the Auspicious Lantern Curios which is done by defeating all of the Lantern Wardens. Once you have the Auspicious Lantern Curios you are free to put down Captain Wise-Voice.
Step 6: Absorb The Spirit Of Captain Wise-Voice
Location: The New West, Pagoda Realm, Mani Wheel.
Once you have defeated the Captain Wise-Voice boss ensure you absorb the Spirit of Captain Wise-Voice.
Step 7: Absorb The Spirit Of Captain Void-Illusion
Location: The New West, Valley of Ecstasy, Longevity Road.
Look at the Longevity Road Shrine then go right pass the enemies where you will come to a large corpse you can interact with. In doing so you will absorb the Spirit of Captain Void-Illusion.
Step 8: Defeat Captain Kalpa-Wave
Location: The New West, Valley of Ecstasy, Longevity Road.
Go through the Longevity Road biome to the large red web which will form the Captain Kalpa-Wave boss as you approach. Defeat it.
Step 9: Absorb The Spirit Of Captain Kalpa-Wave
Location: The New West, Valley of Ecstasy, Longevity Road.
Ensure you absorb the Spirit of Captain Kalpa-Wave once the Captain Kalpa-Wave boss has been defeated.
Step 10: Return To The Third Prince
Location: The New West, Pagoda Realm, Lower Pagoda.
Fast travel back to the Lower Pagoda shrine then take a left where you can enter the Third Princes sell, interact with him which will start a cutscene then keep speaking with him until you receive his thanks and the Chubai Spearhead.
Rewards
Once you have returned all 4 Spirits to the Third Prince he will give you the Chubai Spearhead which is an item you can use to craft the Chu-Bai Spear which grants you access to a new set of melee moves in combat. You can also pull the sword from the corpse who is on the right side of the Third Prince’s cell which will award you the Ashen Slumber Transformation.
