Here we will go over where you can find all of the Black Myth Wukong Yaoguai Chiefs Portraits of which there are 55 in total all of which can be found throughout your first playthrough and the majority of the Yaoguai Chiefs are bosses either mandatory story bosses or optional bosses with some Chiefs only appearing in cutscenes or as part of other boss fights you have a lot to do one way or another throughout the 6 chapters in the game. Yaoguai Chiefs Portraits

Bullguard

Location: Black Wind Mountain, Forest of Wolves, Back Hills.
The Bullguard boss is a mandatory boss near the start of the game and also where you will acquire the Immobilize Spell.

Guanzhi

Location: Black Wind Mountains, Forest of Wolves, Outside the Forest.
The Guanzhi boss is an optional boss you can fight in the North East of the Outside the Forest region and is where you can acquire the Red Tides Transformation.

Guangmou

Location: Black Wind Mountain, Bamboo Grove, Snake Trail.
The Guangmou boss is a mandatory boss at the back of the Snake Trail region and is where you can acquire the Guangmou Spirit.

Baw-Li-Guhh-Lang

Location: Black Wind Mountain, Bamboo Grove, Snake Trail.
The Baw-Li-Guhh-Lang boss is an optional boss you can find by dropping down to your right after passing through the area with the 3 Skeletal Snakes then go into the marshland and is where you can acquire the Baw-Li-Guhh-Lang Spirit. Putting the Baw-Li-Guh-Lang boss down will count towards A Clamor of Frogs.

Lang-Li-Guhh-Baw

Location: Yellow Wind Ridge, Sandgate Village, Village Entrance.
The Lang-Li-Guhh-Baw boss is an optional boss you can find in a quarry at the end of the tunnel after dropping down to your left from the Sandgate Village shrine and is where you can acquire the Evil-Repelling Medicament Formula. Defeating the Lang-Li-Guhh-Baw boss will count towards A Clamor of Frogs.

Earth Wolf

Location: Yellow Wind Ridge, Sandgate Village, Village Entrance.
The Earth Wolf boss is an optional boss you can fight by going left through the open area from the Village Entrance shrine then jumping over the rooftops and is where you can also acquire the Earth Wolf Spirit. You can also speak with Ma Tianba in the same area (Urge Unfulfilled).

The Royal Family Of Flowing Sands

Location: Yellow Wind Ridge, Sandgate Village, Village Entrance.
The Royal Family of Flowing Sands Portrait will unlock after the mandatory King and Second Son of Flowing Sands boss fight. Ensure you defeat the King before the Second Son so you can acquire the Second Rat Prince Spirit.

First Prince Of Flowing Sands

Location: Yellow Wind Ridge, Sandgate Village, Valley of Despair.
The First Prince of Flowing Sands boss is an optional boss you can by entering the caverns to the left of the Valley of Despair shrine then dropping down to the lower level. Providing you defeated the King of Flowing Sands you will need to summon the First Prince by offering the Pungent Flesh Chunk at the edge of the canyon. If you didn’t get the Wandering Wight Spirit stand against the left wall so the First Prince charges at it smashing the wall which will lead you through to a cavern containing the Loong Scales.

Mother Of Stones

Location: Yellow Wind Ridge, Fright Cliff, Squall Hideout.
The Mother of Stones boss is an optional boss you can fight by going left through the caverns from the Squall Hideout shrine then up and through the tunnel on your left. Defeat the Poisestone Spirit, clear the area of enemies then attack the blue rocks on the left of the arena to initiate the fight. You will receive the Stone Essence after the fight to awaken the Man-in-Stone boss.

Tiger's Acolyte

Location: Yellow Wind Ridge, Yellow Wind Formation, Windrest Hamlet.
The Tiger’s Acolyte boss is an optional boss you can fight on a narrow bridge in the Windrest Hamlet region and is where you can acquire the Rattle Drum to work through the Old Rattle-Drum quest.

Gore-Eye Daoist

Location: Yellow Wind Ridge, Yellow Wind Formation, Windseal Gate.
The Gore-Eye Daoist boss can be found to the left of the Windseal Gate region examining the cliffs. You can find the Windseal Gate region by sliding down the sand bank behind the arena where you can fight the Stone Vanguard boss and the Shigandang boss. Defeating the Gore-Eye Daoist will allow you to absorb the Gore-Eye Daoist Spirit.

Mad Tiger

Location: Yellow Wind Ridge, Sandgate Village, Village Entrance.
The Mad Tiger boss is an optional boss you can fight in a well at the end of the Old Rattle-Drum quest which you can start after taking down the Tiger’s Acolyte boss and tasks you with going to 2 areas, the open area full of townsfolk in Windrest Hamlet and the area just over the bridge in the Windseal Gate region. You can then drop down into the well and defeat the Mad Tiger who you can absorb the Mad Tiger Spirit from. You can also loot the Plaguebane Gourd from the chest at the back of the cavern.

Tiger Vanguard (Chief)

Location: Yellow Wind Ridge, Kingdom of Sahali, Sandgate Pass.
The Tiger Vanguard (Chief) boss is an optional boss you can fight in the Kingdom of Sahali which serves as the secret area of Yellow Wind Ridge and is accessible by completing the Drunken Boar quest then defeating the Yellow-Robed Squire boss. The Tiger Vanguard (Chief) is also where you will acquire the Tiger Tally Curios.

Captain Lotus-Vision

Location: The New West, Pagoda Realm, Upper Pagoda.
The Captain Lotus-Vision boss is an optional boss you can fight in the Upper Pagoda region by dropping down carefully behind the shrine and is required to remove the purple seals from the cells allowing you to collect a good number of Spirits and goodies. Ensure you collect the, The Spirit of Captain Lotus-Vision as it is one of the 4 required non-equippable Spirits required for the Third Prince Quest.

Captain Void-Illusion

Location: The New West, Valley of Ecstasy, Longevity Road.
The Captain Void-Illusion is a fallen figure you can find by going right from the Longevity Road shrine, you will find a large corpse on the ground which looks like a fallen tree which you can interact with to receive the, The Spirit of Captain Void-Illusion which is one of the 4 required Spirits needed for the Third Prince quest.

Captain Kalpa-Wave

Location: The New West, Valley of Ecstasy, Longevity Road.
The Captain Kalpa-Wave boss is a mandatory boss you need to fight to get through to New Thunderclap Temple. Ensure you acquire the, The Spirit of Captain Kalpa-Wave which will be the final of the 4 required Spirits in the Third Prince quest.

Apramana Bat

Location: The New West, Bitter Lake, North Shore of the Bitter Lake.
The Apramana Bat boss can be found by going East from the North Sore of the Bitter Lake shrine and is a missable boss who you need to defeat before Zhu Bajie leaves your party later in the Bitter Lake. You need to defeat the Apramana Bat boss to be able to acquire the Apramana Bat Spirit after the Yellowbrow boss fight which concludes Chapter 3.

Lang-Li-Guhh-Lang

Location: The New West, Valley of Ecstasy, Forest of Felicity.
The Lang-Li-Guhh-Lang boss is an optional boss you can fight by going into the cavern opposite the Forest of Felicity shrine and is a tough, cryo based opponent. You need to put the Lang-Li-Guhh-Lang boss down to count towards A Clamor of Frogs.

Old Ginseng Guai

The Old Ginseng Guai boss is an optional boss you fight by going West from the Towers of Karma shrine you can find by following the path left from the arena where you fought the Lang-Li-Guhh-Lang boss. Try to harvest the Ginseng in the centre of the small lake to spawn the Old Ginseng Guai who, once defeat will award you the Old Ginseng Guai Spirit, the Millennium Ginseng Seed and the Ginseng Cape chest armour. You can also loot the Jade Essence Drink behind the pillar at the back of the arena.

Non-White

Location: The New West, Valley of Ecstasy, Mindfulness Cliff.
The Non-White boss is a mandatory boss you will initially fight just pass the Mindfulness Cliff then properly at the summit. You can absorb the Non-White Spirit once the boss has been defeated as well as use the Meditation Spot (Scenic Seeker).

Non-Pure

Location: The New West, New Thunderclap Temple, Mahavira Shrine.
The Non-Pure boss is an optional boss you can fight in the New Thunderclap Temple. Rest at the Mahavira Shrine then run back down the stairs and over to your left where the Non-White can be fought inside the building. After the fight you can acquire the Non-Pure Spirit and use a Meditation Spot (Scenic Seeker).

Non-Able

Location: The New West, Valley of Ecstasy, Brook of Bliss.
The Non-Able boss is an optional boss you can fight at the Northern end of the Brook of Bliss and it can be challenging as the Non-Able is a 2 phase fight with very hard hitting attacks. After the fight you can collect the Non-Able Spirit.

Non-Void

Location: The New West, New Thunderclap Temple, Temple Entrance.
The Non-Void boss is an optional boss who initially won’t be aggressive. In order to fight the boss you firstly need to collect the Snow Fox Brush by speaking with the large corpse to the left of the Forest of Felicity shrine. With the Snow Fox Brush acquired go to New Thunderclap Temple then follow the path up to the far left, go up the stairs then enter the building as the Bloody Snow Fox. Defeat the Non-Void boss then absorb the Non-Void Spirit after which you can return to the corpse to acquire the Snow Fox Brush Curios.

Monk From The Sea

Location: The New West, New Thunderclap Temple, Temple Entrance.
The Monk from the Sea boss is an optional boss you can find by going right from the Temple Entrance shrine up the hill then out where you will see a well over to your left. Approach the well to spawn the powerful Monk from the Sea boss who, once defeated will allow you to acquire the Hoarfrost Transformation.

Macaque Chief

Location: The New West.
The Macaque Chief is a mandatory boss you need to fight 3 times as you progresss through the New West, the first time you fight the Macaque Chief boss will be in the Snowhill Path region, the Macaque Chief (second encounter) boss will be fought in the Pagoda Realm region and the third and final time you fight the Macaque Chief will be during the Yellowbrow boss fight after which you will be able to transform in to the Macaque Chief by way of the Umbral Abyss Transformation.

The Sixth Sister

Location: The Webbed Ridge.
The Sixth Sister Portrait will unlock at random through different cutscenes you will come to in the Webbed Hollow such as the one in the Lower Hollow where the Sisters speak about their Mother. Alternatively, the Sixth Sister Portrait will be unlocked after the Hundred-Eyed Daoist Master boss fight where all of the Sister’s Spider forms are defeated.

The Fifth Sister

Location: The Webbed Ridge.
The Fifth Sister Portrait will unlock at random through different cutscenes you will come to in the Webbed Hollow such as the one in the Lower Hollow where the Sisters speak about their Mother. Alternatively, the Fifth Sister Portrait will be unlocked after the Hundred-Eyed Daoist Master boss fight where all of the Sister’s Spider forms are defeated.

The Fourth Sister

Location: The Webbed Ridge.
The Fourth Sister Portrait will unlock as you work through the Purple Talisman quest which is required to get a small taste of the Supreme Inspector bosses power as well as acquire a Celestial Nonary Pill (Medicine Meal). Alternatively, the Fifth Sister Portrait will be unlocked after the Hundred-Eyed Daoist Master boss fight where all of the Sister’s Spider forms are defeated.

The Third Sister

Location: The Webbed Ridge.
The Third Sister Portrait will unlock at random through different cutscenes you will come to in the Webbed Hollow such as the one in the Lower Hollow where the Sisters speak about their Mother. Alternatively, the Third Sister Portrait will be unlocked after the Hundred-Eyed Daoist Master boss fight where all of the Sister’s Spider forms are defeated.

The Second Sister

Location: The Webbed Ridge, Village of Lanxi, Estate of the Zhu.
The Second Sister boss is a mandatory boss you will need to fight in the Estate of the Zhu and she is blocking your way to the Webbed Hollow.

The First Sister

Location: The Webbed Ridge.
The First Sister Portrait will either unlock in the Verdure Bridge region when you go left from the shrine which triggers a cut scene where she cuts down the lanterns opening the way to the room where you can loot the chests containing the Xiang Goddess River Gourd, the Purple-Veined Peach Pit Soak, the Enhanced Ginseng Pellet Formula then lead through to the back cavern where the Elder Armourworm boss can be defeated. Alternatively, the Third Sister Portrait will be unlocked after the Hundred-Eyed Daoist Master boss fight where all of the Sister’s Spider forms are defeated.

Elder Armourworm

Location: The Webbed Ridge, Webbed Hollow, Verdure Bridge.
The Elder Armourworm boss is an optional boss you can fight in the Verdure Bridge region by going left from the shrine then into the room with the chests, go through to the back cavern to start the fight after which you will receive the Proto-Armourworm which you can cultivate in Zodiac Village (accessible once the Chen Loong quest is completed) by feeding it 3 rice cocoons which then turns into the Elder Armourworm Spirt.

Centipede Guai

Location: The Webbed Ridge, Webbed Hollow Bonevault / Middle Hollow.
The Centipede Guai boss is a mandatory boss you can fight from either the Bonevault or Middle Hollow regions. Once the Centipede Guai is down you can acquire the Centipede Guai Spirit.

Boddhisatva's Right Hand

Location: The Webbed Ridge, Webbed Hollow, Cliff of Oblivion.
The Boddhisatva’s Right Hand boss is a mandatory boss you can fight in the Cliff of Oblivion region and once defeated you will receive the Boddhisatva’s Right Hand which you can use amongst other items to purchase the Immortal Blessing Gourd.

Baw-Li-Guhh-Baw

Location: The Webbed Ridge, Webbed Hollow, Lower Hollow.
The Baw-Li-Guhh-Baw boss is an optional boss you can fight in the Lower Hollow region of the Webbed Hollow by going back the way you came then squeezing through the crack in the left wall. You will receive the Boddhisatva’s Left Hand once the Baw-Li-Guhh-Baw boss is defeated which you can use amongst other items to purchase the Immortal Blessing Gourd from Shen Monkey. Taking Baw-Li-Guhh-Baw down will count towards A Clamor of Frogs.

Beetle Commander

Location: The Webbed Ridge, Temple of Yellow Flowers, Forest of Ferocity.
The Beetle Commander is an optional boss you can fight in the Forest of Ferocity by passing the Snake Herbalist then taking a right at the top of the stairs. Eliminate the troop who are training then tackle the Beetle Commander which then enables you to absorb the Commander Beetle Spirit.

Daoist Mi

Location: The Webbed Ridge, Purple Cloud Mountain, Petalfall Hamlet.
Daoist Mi is a strange Portrait to unlock as initially you will need to speak with him in the Petalfall Hamlet where you are tasked with finding the Violet Hail, an object which corrupts the local Soldiers so go off and kill them however many times are needed until you eventually get the Violet Hail then return it to Daoist Mi. Daoist Mi will then transform into a 2 phase boss who you need to put down and given the power of the second phase the Doaist Mi boss brings you need to conserve your resources where you will then be awarded the Violet Hail Transformation. Purple Cloud Mountain serves as the secret area of The Webbed Ridge and is accessed by taking down the Venom Daoist boss then the Venom Daoist (second encounter) boss which spawns a painting you can interact with.

Five Element Carts

Location: Flaming Mountains.
The Five Element Carts are situated throughout the Flaming Mountains, 4 of which will be boss fights, 3 mandatory and12 optional with the 3 mandatory bosses being:

  1. Brown-Iron Cart boss.
  2. Gray-Bronze Cart boss.
  3. Crimson-Silver Cart.
 

There is another Cart you can find in the Valley Entrance region by going right pass the Earth Rakshasa then doubling back to the solid ground where the fourth Cart will be dead already, killed by Ma Tianba who you can speak to providing you have already spoken with him in the previous 4 chapters you will receive the Dark Thunder Transformation as well as unlock Urge Unfulfilled. As for the fifth and final Cart, the Rusty-Gold Cart boss can be fought once you have taken down and interacted with the previous 4 Carts as well as having spoken with the Pale-Axe Stalwart who initially will be at the site where you fought the Pale-Axe Stalwart boss then again in the same location as the Crimson-Silver Cart boss.

From here you can enter the Cooling Slope region which you can find by going back down the hill from the Furnace Valley Crater shrine, take a left now the flames have been stopped then enter the open arena and defeat the Rusty-Gold Cart boss. In doing so you will receive the Flame Orb Curios.

Father Of Stones

Location: Flaming Mountains, Woods of Ember, Height of Ember.
The Father of Stones boss is a mandatory boss you need to take down in the Height of Ember region, in doing so you can then absorb the Father of Stones Spirit.

Quick As Fire, Fast As Wind

Location: Flaming Mountains, Woods of Ember, Height of Ember.
The Quick as Fire, Fast as Wind boss are a pair of heads you need to fight which will be a lot easier if you use Thrust Stance for increased range.

Cloudy Misty, Misty Cloud

Location: Flaming Mountains, Furnace Valley, Valley Entrance.
The Cloudy Mist, Misty Cloud boss are a mandatory pair of bosses you can fight at the end of the Valley Entrance region. Once the pair are defeated you can absorb the Cloudy Mist, Misty Cloud Spirit.

Top Takes Bottom, Bottom Takes Top

Location: Flaming Mountains, Bishui Caves, Purge Pit.
The Top Takes Bottom, Bottom Takes Top boss is a optional boss you can fight in the Bishui Caves which is accessed by firstly completing the Rusty Carts quest and ensuring you have watched the Pale-Axe Stalwart die. You can then enter the doorway at the back of the arena where you can defeat the Rusty-Gold Cart boss to enter the Bishui Caves. You can acquire the Top Takes Bottom, Bottom Takes Top Spirit before fighting the boss by travelling back to the Emerald Hall region after Zhu Bajie has knocked the spinning ball down into the abyss by going back up the hill to find the ball embedded in the rock.

Flint Chief

Location: Flaming Mountains, Furnace Valley, Valley Entrance.
The Flint Chief boss is an optional boss you can fight by going left at the first Earth Rakshasa you come to which will be a lot more manageable if you have the Fireproof Mantle Vessel equipped as it negates all fire damage from lava. Once the Flint Chief boss is down you can absorb the Flint Chief Spirit as well as receive 1 of 3 Samadhi Fire Crystals needed to craft the Staff of Blazing Karma.

Flint Vanguard

Location: Flaming Mountains, Field of Fire, Furnace Valley Crater.
The Flint Vanguard boss is an optional boss you can fight by going back down the hill from the Furnace Valley Crater shrine then taking a left out into the open area. Once the Flint Vanguard boss is defeated you can absorb the Flint Vanguard Spirit as well as receive 1 of 3 Samadhi Fire Crystals required to craft the Staff of Blazing Karma.

Mother Of Flamlings

Location: Flaming Mountains, Field of Fire, Furnace Valley Crater.
The Mother of Flamlings boss is an optional boss you can fight by going back down the hill from the Furnace Valley Crater shrine then taking a left into the area which is now accessible as the flames have been extinguished. However, before you make the journey, check your inventory for 4 Flame Ore, if you don’t have them you can purchase Flame Ore at the Furnace Valley Crater shrine which you can then use to summon the Mother of Flamlings at the glowing section of rock at the bottom of the hill near the Cooling Slope shrine. Once the Mother of Flamlings boss is defeated you can absorb the Mother of Flamlings Spirit as well as 1 of 3 Samadhi Fire Crystals needed to craft the Staff of Blazing Karma.

Baw-Lang-Lang

Location: Flaming Mountains, Field of Fire, Cooling Slope.
The Baw-Lang-Lang boss is an optional boss you can fight in the Cooling Slope region of the Flaming Mountains after you open the way to Bishui Caves by completing the Rusty Carts quest then making sure the Pale-Axe Stalwart has passed away which then opens the door leading down to Bishui Caves, however, if you look over to the left at the bottom of the slope before entering Bishui Caves you can se Baw-Lang-Lang in the distance. Defeating Baw-Lang-Lang counts towards A Clamor of Frogs.

Son Of Stones

Location: Mount Huaguo, Foothills, Verdant Path.
The Son of Stones boss is an optional boss you can find by crossing over the river once you have the Somersault Cloud Spell and at first he won’t want to fight you so keep hitting the Son from behind until he decides its time for a fight then get ready for some hard hitting attacks.

Poison Chief

Location: Mount Huaguo, Foothills.
There are 4 Poison Chef bosses you can find and defeat in the Mount Huaguo region. Refer to the following links to find them all:

  1. Poison Chief boss.
  2. Poison Chief (second encounter) boss.
  3. Poison Chief (third encounter) boss.
  4. Poison Chief (fourth encounter) boss.
 

You will only need to take down 1 Poison Chief for the Portrait but considering the others drop materials you might as well whilst you’re flying around the sixth chapter in the game.

Water-Wood Beast

Location: Mount Huaguo, Foothills, Verdant Path.
The Water-Wood Beast boss is an optional boss you can find in the South West section of Mount Huaguo in a lake with churning waters. Approach the waters to spawn the Hippo who you then need to defeat.

Jiao-Loong Of Waves

Location: Mount Huaguo, Foothills, Verdant Path.
The Jiao-Loong of Waves boss is an optional boss you can find by dropping down to the lake directly below where you acquire the Somersault Cloud Spell and will aggro when you approach the churning waters. Defeat the Jiao-Loong of Waves boss to receive the Waterward Orb Curios.

Lang-Baw-Baw

Location: Mount Huaguo, Foothills, Rhino Watch Slope.
The Lang-Baw-Baw boss is an optional boss you can find by going North from the Rhino Watch Slope then dropping down to the dried out land below then get ready for a brutally tough fight against a stone Frog who once defeated will drop the Celestial Birthstone Fragment Curios which if you have been following along with the guides will unlock A Curious Collection. This will also be the final Frog you can defeat in Black Myth Wukong which then unlocks A Clamor of Frogs.

Gold Armoured Rhino

Location: Mount Huaguo, Foothills, Rhino Watch Slope.
The Gold Armored Rhino boss is a mandatory boss you will need to fight in the Rhino Watch Slope and can be made easier by having the Wandering Wight Spirit equipped as it can smash the horn off in 1 hit allowing you to get some punishment in before the horn regenerates. With the Gold Armoured Rhino defeated you will receive the Gold Suozi Armour chest armour (mythical).

Cloudtreading Deer

Location: Mount Huaguo, Foothills, Deer Sight Forest.
The Cloudtreading Deer boss is a mandatory boss who you can fight in the Deer Sight Forest and is a living nightmare to deal with as it is a 2 phase fight which is bad enough but this is one boss who could benefit more than any other to have the hitboxes fixed as sometimes your hits fail to register whereas the Deer can hit you from a good distance then on a random attempt everything will work as it should and you have a much higher chance of coming away with the win. Defeating the Cloudtreading Deer will reward you with the Lotus Silk Cloudtreaders Leg Armour (Mythical).

Feng-Tail General

Location: Mount Huaguo, Foothills, Verdant Path.
The Feng-Tail General boss is a mandatory boss who you need to ride rather than fight. Ensure you have firstly found every Celestial Nonary Pill and Jade Lotus Pill (Medicine Meal) which then increases your maximum Stamina and Health respectively as well as having the Back Scratcher Curios equipped. Finally, ensure you have the Fireproof Mantle Vessel equipped to lower fire damage. Once you’re all set you can then fly South West to the solitary rock where the Feng-Tail General boss will land. You then land on its back and hold R2 until the General has completed 3 jumps. Hold on again with R2 which then drains your health where if you survive long enough you will win the battle unlocking the Golden Feng-Tail Crown headgear armour (Mythical).

Emerald-Armed Mantis

Location: Mount Huaguo, Foothills, Mantis-Catching Swamp.
The Emerald-Armed Mantis boss is a mandatory boss who you will fight inside Zhi Bajie’s stomach and can only be fought after you have defeated the following 3 mandatory bosses:

  1. Feng-Tail General.
  2. Gold Armoured Rhino.
  3. Cloudtreading Deer.
 

You can approach the mist around the golden tree to start the very tough fight as this Mantis moves incredibly fast and slices your health bar with ease but once the Emerald-Armed Mantis boss has been defeated you will receive the Dian-Cui Loong-Soaring Bracers arm armour (Mythical).
