Location: The New West, Ruyi Scroll, Zodiac Village.

Yin Tiger is an incredibly challenging boss when you first get to the optional Zodiac Village so if needs be come back much later in the game, however, you will be able to unlock a 3rd Curious slot which can be invaluable in some of the later fights so come back periodically as you get stronger and stronger where you will stand a better chance against Yin Tiger. When you’re ready to begin the fight, speak to Yin Tiger then choose the “Challenge” option where he will stop smithing and come at you with fury unlike virtually any other boss in the game.
You will need to endure a heavy onslaughts with seemingly never ending combos all of which can half health you per hit so if you get caught out it’s straight back to the shrine for you and with Spells like Immobilize being next to useless as with one hit Yin will break out of the spell and punish you with charged attacks that are tough to avoid you will have lost one of your best assets. Cloud Step, however is a life saver in this fight as it creates a decoy allowing you to heal then get back to attacking the blacksmith or getting a charged heavy in.
Yin will mix up the moves he does and he has an incredibly versatile move set, more than any other boss you will have fought, you could have slashes, jumping attacks, thrusts, power slashes and pouncing attacks and with some of them having delays to their attacks it can make dodging them troublesome as if you dodge, he delays then smacks before you can dodge again it’s going to be a rough fight.
Another series of moves he can do is disappearing which is an odd mechanic given his size but he will disappear then reappear with a heavy attack, disappear again and come back with more which can come from above or from any side. Another tough way he will come back to the arena is with a close quarters throw where he inflicts around 75% health damage if it connects so keep mobile and try to have a Cloud Step available to get away quickly.
There is no real weakness to Yin Tiger, this is a test of skill. You can come back later in the game when you have poison damage or use the Red Tides Transformation to inflict burn but ultimately this is a fight where you will more than likely suffer your way through then after countless losses, the planets will align and you will get the win. One of the toughest fights in the game this.
