Elden Ring Classes

Elden Ring is the latest title by FromSoftware and sees you essentially go into an open world Dark Souls with brutal combat, punishing bosses and a heavy emphasis on spells as well as hand to hand melee combat.

One of the staple points in Dark Souls and Bloodborne are the classes you can choose at the start of the game which then sets you on a path through the world. Whilst, in the past at least, all of these classes have given you a base skill set where you can then either hone your skills in magic, strength or dexterity essentially (very watered down description).

The attributes that define Elden Ring as as follows:

  • Vigor
    Attribute governing HP (Hit Points). Also affects fire resistance and immunity (poison damage etc.).
  • Mind
    Attribute that determines FP (Focus Points). Also affects focus.
  • Endurance
    Attribute governing stamina. Also affects robustness. This attribute also determines how heavy your equipment can be.
  • Strength
    Attribute required to wield heavy armaments. Also boosts attack power of strength-scaling armaments and affects your physical defense.
  • Dexterity
    Attribute required to wield advanced armaments. Also boosts attack power of dexterity-scaling armaments, reduces the casting time of spells, softens fall damage, and makes it harder to be knocked off your horse.
  • Intelligence
    Attribute required to perform glintstone sorceries. Also boosts magic power of intelligence-scaling sorceries and improves magic resistance.
  • Faith
    Attribute required to perform sacred incantations. Also boosts magic power of faith-scaling incantations.
  • Arcane
    Attribute governing discovery. Also affects holy defense, vitality, and certain sorceries and incantations.
  • More often the not, choosing the right class for your playstyle will help you get through the first few areas until you have enough souls (XP) to level up in any direction you wish.

Elden Ring is no different in this regard with an impressive 10 base classes to choose from.

Vagabond

The Vagabond is a good all around starting class with high Vigor, Strength and Dexterity with good Stamina, a high range melee weapon, sword and shield.

  • Soul Level: 9.
  • Vigor: 15.
  • Mind: 10.
  • Endurance: 11.
  • Strength: 14.
  • Dexterity: 13.
  • Intelligence: 9.
  • Faith: 9.
  • Arcane: 7.

You will also have the following equipment to start the game with;

  • Longsword.
  • Halberd.
  • Heater Shield.

The Vagabond class will be a very good class for those new to the genre.

Warrior

The Warrior class can deal heavy damage with its’ 2 Scimitars then switch to a shield when the enemies go on the offensive.

  • Soul Level: 8.
  • Vigor: 11.
  • Mind: 12.
  • Endurance: 11.
  • Strength: 10.
  • Dexterity: 16.
  • Intelligence: 10.
  • Faith: 8.
  • Arcane: 9.

You will also have the following equipment to start the game with;

  • Scimitar.
  • Scimitar.
  • Riveted Wooden Shield.

The Confessor will be good for people who favour a fast paced melee playstyle.

Hero

The Hero is the only class that starts off as a strength build and as such can deal really heavy melee based damage. Combine that with the large shield the Hero starts the game with and you have a good chance of defending incoming attacks.

  • Soul Level: 7.
  • Vigor: 14.
  • Mind: 9.
  • Endurance: 12.
  • Strength: 16.
  • Dexterity: 9.
  • Intelligence: 7.
  • Faith: 8.
  • Arcane: 11.

You will also have the following equipment to start the game with;

  • Battle Axe.
  • Large Leather Shield.

The Hero is the only strength based starting class and my personal preference.

Bandit

The Bandit class will be skilled with weapons which scale through Dexterity as well as having a good grasp of Arcane skills and has the following base stats;

  • Soul Level: 5.
  • Vigor: 10.
  • Mind: 11.
  • Endurance: 10.
  • Strength: 9.
  • Dexterity: 13.
  • Intelligence: 9.
  • Faith: 8.
  • Arcane: 14.

You will also have the following equipment to start the game with;

  • Knife.
  • Shortbow.
  • Buckler (Shield).
  • Bone Arrow (Fletched) x30.

The Bandit will be good for people who prefer a ranged, fast paced combat style.

Astrologer

The Astrologer has a good emphasis on sorcery as well as being able to wield nimble weapons which scale with Dexterity and has the following base stats;

  • Soul Level: 6.
  • Vigor: 9.
  • Mind: 15.
  • Endurance: 9.
  • Strength: 8.
  • Dexterity: 12.
  • Intelligence: 16.
  • Faith: 7.
  • Arcane: 9.

You will also have the following equipment to start the game with;

  • Astrologer’s Staff.
  • Short Sword.
  • Small Shield.
  • Sorcery: Glintstone Pebble.
  • Sorcery: Glintstone Arc.

The Astrologer will be good for people who prefer a ranged combat style using magic to deal heavy damage from a distance.

Prophet

The Prophet is the only class who starts with a Pyromancy so fans of this build from the Souls Series have their character here. He / She also has a good range spear and a shield that can stand up to most attacks.

  • Soul Level: 7.
  • Vigor: 10.
  • Mind: 14.
  • Endurance: 8.
  • Strength: 11.
  • Dexterity: 10.
  • Intelligence: 7.
  • Faith: 16.
  • Arcane: 10.

You will also have the following equipment to start the game with;

  • Short Spear.
  • Finger Seal.
  • Rickety Shield.
  • Pyromancy: Catch Flame.
  • Miracle: Heal.

The Prophet is a good starting option as the spear has good range and power although the Endurance stat is fairly low at 8 so blocking fidelity will be compromised.

Samurai

The Samurai is a dexterity heavyweight especially with the classic Uchigatana from the outset. Combine that with a strong shield and a longbow and you have a class that can fight up close or snipe enemies from a great distance.

  • Soul Level: 9.
  • Vigor: 12.
  • Mind: 11.
  • Endurance: 13.
  • Strength: 12.
  • Dexterity: 15.
  • Intelligence: 9.
  • Faith: 8.
  • Arcane: 8.

You will also have the following equipment to start the game with;

  • Uchigatana.
  • Longbow.
  • Red Thorn Roundshield.
  • Arrow x20.
  • Fire Arrow x10.

The Samurai will be a very good option to start the game as. High power. High defence and ranged combat capabilities from the get go.

Prisoner

The Prisoner balances Dexterity and Intelligence meaning it can utilise magic as well as fast, light weapons when the magic runs dry.

  • Soul Level: 9.
  • Vigor: 11.
  • Mind: 12.
  • Endurance: 11.
  • Strength: 11.
  • Dexterity: 14.
  • Intelligence: 14.
  • Faith: 6.
  • Arcane: 9.

You will also have the following equipment to start the game with;

  • Estoc.
  • Glintstone Staff.
  • Rift Shield.

The Prisoner is an alternative sorcery build to the Astrologer and one if you want a more tactical magic playstyle.

Confessor

The Confessor is a Faith build who can utilise stealth as well as having a sword and shield for when stealth isn’t an option.

  • Soul Level: 10.
  • Vigor: 10.
  • Mind: 13.
  • Endurance: 10.
  • Strength: 12.
  • Dexterity: 12.
  • Intelligence: 9.
  • Faith: 14.
  • Arcane: 9.

You will also have the following equipment to start the game with;

  • Broadsword.
  • Kite Shield.
  • Finger Seal.
  • Miracle: Urgent Heal.
  • Miracle: Assassin’s Approach.

The Confessor will benefit from some offensive magic as well as the starting defensive magic for when things need to get violent and is definitely going to be a class better suited to players who have faith build experience from the Dark Souls series.

Wretch

The Wretch class is essentially a blank canvas. You start off with equal stats in every attribute with nothing more than a Club and bit of cloth of your bits and bobs.

  • Soul Level: 1.
  • Vigor: 10.
  • Mind: 10.
  • Endurance: 10.
  • Strength: 10.
  • Dexterity: 10.
  • Intelligence: 10.
  • Faith: 10.
  • Arcane: 10.

You will also have the following equipment to start the game with;

  • Club.

The Wretch is perfect for those who want to build themselves out equally throughout Elden Ring.

That’s all 10 Elden Ring Classes their stats and what they have available at the start of the game. Which one will you be going in as?
