Final Fantasy VIII Remastered is here! Below, you’ll find a fully detailed walkthrough to get every trophy in the game. There are 29 missable trophies, have a good look through the guide before you start the game so you’ll be in the best position to get your Platinum.
Lionheart
Obtain all trophies
Quezacotl
Unlock Guardian Force Quezacotl
One of the first trophies you’ll unlock in the game. Either go to your console in the classroom when prompted after you leave the infirmary at the very start of the game or go to leave Balamb Garden and you’ll automatically acquire Quezacotl from Quistis and unlock your Trophy.
Shiva
Unlock Guardian Force Shiva
You’ll acquire Shiva immediately after acquiring Quezacotl. Either go to your console in the classroom when prompted after you leave the infirmary at the very start of the game or go to leave Balamb Garden and you’ll automatically acquire Shiva and unlock your Trophy.
Ifrit
Unlock Guardian Force Ifrit
You’ll acquire Ifrit as part of the main story, once you go to the Fire Cavern with Quistis, you’ll fight and acquire Ifrit upon defeating him. He’s very weak to ice, use Shiva a couple of times and you’ll easily acquire Ifrit as well as unlock your Trophy.
Siren
Unlock Guardian Force Siren
During the mission in Dollet, you’ll make your way onto the top of the Communications Tower where you’ll get into a fight with Biggs & Wedge. Once they’re both defeated, Elvoret, will join the fight, you must have the draw ability equipped with at least 1 character, then simply draw Siren from Elvoret. She has a 100% draw success rate, once you have drawn Siren, your Trophy will unlock.
Handyman
Upgrade your weapon
You can acquire this trophy as soon as you’ve completed the Dollet SeeD mission. Once you make your way to Timber, go to Balamb Town and use x2 M-Stone Piece (drops from near on every enemy on Balamb Island) and x1 Bomb Fragment (Fire Cavern where you fought Ifrit) and get The Flail for Selphie which will, in turn, unlock your Trophy.
Card Player
Play Triple Triad
Once you leave the classroom for the first time, and you’ve “bumped” into Selphie, talk to the NPC just in front of the elevator to acquire your first cards. Then go down to the foyer area of Balamb Garden and press Square to initiate a card game against near enough NPC, the young lad in blue running laps is a good choice, simply complete the game, win, lose or draw, at the conclusion of the match, your Trophy will unlock.
First Salary
Get your first salary from SeeD
Shortly after you have become a SeeD, you’ll then watch a cutscene where Squall dances with Rinoa. Once you have done this, you will be tasked with meeting Quistis in the “Training Centre” you’ll either get your first salary here or you’ll get it on the way to Timber. Either way, as soon as you receive your payment, your Trophy will unlock.
Brothers
Unlock Guardian Force Brothers
Keep progressing through the story far enough you’ll be on your way to Deling City, run past Deling City to the tip of the Peninsula to find the Tomb Of The Unknown King save before entering. Once in, always make a right where possible, otherwise forward, you’ll come to the first Brother, defeat him, then again go forward and right until you find a chain across some water, go to the right side and release the chain.
Then again, proceed forward and right until you find a mechanism, activate this, then yet again, proceed forward and right until you’re outside the tomb, save your game, re-enter and proceed forward. The fight against the brothers is fairly simple, keep your health up and use your GF, once they’re defeated your Trophy will unlock.
Maximum HP
Reach maximum HP
Maximum HP in Final Fantasy VIII Remastered is 9999. To achieve this number, junction any sort of curative / assistance magic to your HP stat, the stronger the magic, the greater the increase will be. Junction something like 100 of either Curaga, Protect, Meltdown, Ultima, Quake, to a base HP of 4000 or above and you’ll hit 9999 HP and unlock your Trophy.
100 Kills
Kill 100 enemies
See 1000 Kills for more information.
Chocobo
Capture a Chocobo
You can capture a Chocobo once Balamb Garden has become mobile, make your way to the Northernmost region on the World map and you’ll come to Chocobo Sanctuary, it looks like an upside-down green bowl. Once inside, you’ll go through a short side quest. The young lad there will tell you exactly what to do. Once you’ve completed this very easy side quest you’ll have a Chocobo, when you’re back on the World map with your Chocobo your Trophy will unlock.
Magician
Draw (Stock) magic from enemies 100 times
I recommend you get this one done before you enter the Fire Cavern, as the stat boosts you’ll then have will help you massively. Simply junction the draw ability to both characters and then select this option when in a battle. You need to actually stock this magic rather than casting it. If you are maxed out move onto a different enemy, there’s enough variety on Balamb Island to get this one done soon enough. Once you’ve drawn and stocked magic 100 times, your Trophy will unlock.
Alexander
Unlock Guardian Force Alexander
Alexander is a highly missable GF. Once you’ve made your way through the story far enough you’ll have a battle against Galbadia Garden, after the fight with Seifer, you’ll be tasked with going to the Auditorium. ENSURE YOU SAVE YOUR GAME on your way there.
Ensure all 3 characters have draw junctioned. You’ll get in a fight against Sorceress Edea, it’s from her you draw Alexander from. She has very low health so draw Alexander as soon as the fight starts. Alexander does have a 100% draw success rate. Once acquired your Trophy will unlock.
Leviathan
Unlock Guardian Force Leviathan
Once you’ve been summoned to see Grand Master NORG in Balamb Garden, make sure you have all 3 characters Junctioned with the draw ability. You’ll get in a fight eventually with NORG, defeat his top shell armour, then you can draw Leviathan from him. Get this done at your earliest opportunity so you don’t miss this fantastic GF, Leviathan does have a 100% draw success rate, once acquired your Trophy will unlock.
Pandemona
Unlock Guardian Force Pandemona
Once you’ve made your way back to Balamb Town to find it under Galbadian Military occupancy you’ll need to find The Captain, once you’ve figured all of that out make sure all 3 characters have the draw ability equipped. You’ll get in a fight against Raijin outside the Balamb Hotel. Once defeated you’ll go straight into the hotel foyer and fight both Raijin and Fujin, it’s from Fujin you draw Pandemona.
Get this done as soon as the fight starts so you don’t miss this GF. Pandemona has a 100% draw success rate, once acquired your Trophy will unlock.
Cerberus
Unlock Guardian Force Cerberus
You acquire Cerberus in Galbadia Garden. Once you’ve made your way through Galbadia Garden far enough, you’ll jump down into a basketball court, you should go left ordinarily, however, go right through the hidden door and save your game at the save point. Now go back through the basketball court and carry on up the hallway so you come out in the Garden Circle, there is a large yellow light, Cerberus is inside this light.
He’s a very tough fight, use your strongest GF / Magic / Limit Breaks and hope he’s feeling like dying. Cerberus is also the BEST source for Double & Triple Magic until the end game. Whichever way you choose to defeat him, once he’s down your Trophy will unlock.
Carbuncle
Unlock Guardian Force Carbuncle
You acquire Carbuncle from the Iguion Boss in Deling City during the parade. When you gain control of Squall & Irvine and make your way up the crates to get to Rinoa, make sure you have the draw ability junctioned to both Squall & Irvine. As soon as the fight starts, draw Carbuncle from either Iguion. Carbuncle has a 100% draw success rate, once acquired your Trophy will unlock.
Doomtrain
Unlock Guardian Force Doomtrain
First thing’s first. To unlock Doomtrain you must have acquired Alexander. Once acquired you then need to get the following items:
- Solomon’s Ring: Acquired from Tears Point.
- 6 Steel Pipes: Acquired from Wendigo’s in the forest near Timber.
- 6 Malboro Tentacles: Acquired from Malboro on the Island Closest To Hell.
- 6 Remedy+: This is what you need Alexander for, Alexander has an ability called Med Lvl Up.
You can take 60 remedies, use Med Lvl Up and turn those 60 remedies into 6 Remedy+’s.
Once you have all 19 of these items, go into your item menu and use the Solomon’s Ring. Once used you’ll then have access to the Doomtrain GF and your Trophy will then unlock.
Loser
Lose a rare card in a Triple Triad game
By the time you’ve acquired a few GF’s you’ll also have their respective cards, any GF / player card you have, simply save your game. Go and play a game of Triple Triad, intentionally lose your player / GF card, get your trophy and then simply reload your save. You keep your Trophy and you then don’t need to worry about winning your Rare Card back.

1000 Kills
Kill 1000 enemies
Exactly what it says on the tin. Kill 1000 Enemies, get your trophy. However, to make UFO a lot easier, go to the Trabia Continent and kill as many Gayla and Mesmerize enemies as you can, to ensure you get 100 Mesmerize Horns which you’ll need along the way. All kills count towards the 1000 total required, as soon as you get your 1000th kill, your Trophy will unlock.
Omega Destroyed
Beat the Omega Weapon
Welcome to the hardest trophy in FFVIII Remastered. I strongly recommend you leave this as one of your last trophies you’re going for in FF8. Make sure you’ve collected every GF, have your 3 strongest characters junction 100 Death to Stat-Def as Omega Weapon has an ability called LV. 5 Death, if your party are any multiple of level 5 then that ability will kill you instantly without having this.
Squall must have the Lionheart, personally I went for a party consisting of Squall, Zell & Selphie as they have the highest consistent DPS and defensive capabilities across the board. In FFVIII Remastered, the developers have put Battle Assistance & a Speed Boost in place making this a lot simpler than it used to be back on PS1. Activate these buffs with L3 (Speed x3) R3 (Battle Assistance).
Please note, however, even with these buffs, if Omega decides you’re going to die, then you’re going to die. One of its most powerful attacks is Terra Break which is a severely overpowered Meteor spell that inflicts a minimum of 4000 damage on you and can easily annihilate your entire party if RNG isn’t on your side. It can also unleash Gravija which takes 75% of your HP off regardless of protection and Light Pillar which inflicts 9999 damage regardless of defence.
There is an item you can get called Hero, but for me, by the time I got to my item menu and used the item Omega Weapon had already taken the majority of my parties health. Using the Speed Boost suppresses Omegas’ ability to get an attack in for the most part. Spam Omega with Renzokuken, Zells’ Duel, use Selphie for her Wall ability if you can get Selphies’ The End ability, that’s an instant win, but it does have a very low spawn rate.
You will probably die several times fighting Omega, but you only have to win once for the trophy to unlock. Now you know the strategy, let’s get to finding Omega Weapon. You’ll need to be in Ultimecia’s Castle, from the main entrance, make a separate save and proceed through the front door, go up the stairs and defeat Sphinxaur. A very simple fight (if it isn’t simple for you then go away and level up) now proceed through the door to directly in front of you, go onto the chandelier where you’ll drop down to a lower level.
Proceed through the door North of your position, you’ll then be in a small courtyard with a fountain, enter the green aura and switch to your secondary party. Proceed into the Castle again and go up the stairs, this time, go right, back down and through the door, proceed around the balcony, down the stairs and pull the long black pull cord where a timer will start.
Go into the green aura just in front of you and switch back to your main party. Go through the door opposite your position, Omega Weapon will be in this room. Good Luck! Once defeated, you’ll earn the Omega Badge and unlock your Trophy.
Magic Miner
Draw magic 100 times from draw points
Wait until you’ve got the Ragnarok and you’ll have access to 2 very special islands, make sure you’ve got Diablos’ ENC-None ability equipped for this. The 2 islands are, The Island Closest To Heaven (North-East most island) and the Island Closest To Hell (West most island) there are around 25-30 draw points on each island.
Make sure all 3 characters in your party have the draw ability equipped and run around the coast, then make your way inland. Simply make your way from one island to the other until you’ve drawn 100 Times at which point, your Trophy will unlock.
Timber Maniacs
Collect all Timber Maniacs magazines

Cactuar
Unlock Guardian Force Cactuar
Once you’ve acquired the Ragnarok, go to the most South-Western island, the one that’s kind of shaped like a Cactus, you’ll see a Cactus, disappearing and reappearing on the world map, touch this cactus to initiate the fight.
Cactuar has a very nasty attack called 10,000 Needles, this will 1-shot you regardless of your stats so make sure you have plenty of life magic / phoenix downs. Cactuar is very weak to water so equip that to your ATK-J and use the Leviathan GF. Whichever way you choose to defeat Cactuar, once it’s dead, you’ll then unlock your Trophy.
Tonberry
Unlock Guardian Force Tonberry
Tonberry is a difficult one, you need to go to Centra Ruins and complete the quest for Odin to make acquiring Tonberry a lot simpler. When you first enter Centra Ruins there’s a time limit of 20 minutes, get the Odin side quest done (see video below for details) then there’s no time limit. After you’re done with the Odin side quest, go back to the World map, save and re-enter Centra Ruins, make your way up the first flight of stairs and stay in the area with the large fountain.
You will only fight Tonberries in this location, nasty little enemies with a very strong attack. Essentially what you need to do is defeat enough of these Tonberries WITHOUT LEAVING THE RUINS (progress resets if you do).
Eventually, you’ll defeat a Tonberry and the Tonberry King will drop in straight after the fight (fight won’t end) the Tonberry King is a lot easier than the standard Tonberries because he doesn’t counter every attack. Use your limit breaks / GF to defeat Tonberry King faster, once defeated you’ll have access to Tonberry GF and your Trophy will unlock.
Eden
Unlock Guardian Force Eden
Eden is the toughest GF to get to and more importantly, come away with. First off you must have defeated Bahamut. Make your way back to the Deep Sea Research Centre (SW corner of the world map). You need the Ragnarok for this. You want to make sure you’re very high level with incredibly high stats before you even think about going for Eden. You’ll face everything between x2 Iron Giants, Ruby Dragons, Tri-Faces and finally Ultima Weapon. Oh, and you do all that with No Save Points along the way.
1 very important thing to ensure you do is to have a high-level Zell in your party, but we’ll get to that. Make your way down the hole after defeating Bahamut, you need to release pressure to get to the Excavation Site, use 1 pressure all the way down to the bottom and having Zell in your party will ensure you can get through the lowest door.
Now before you proceed through, make sure all 3 characters have the draw ability junctioned to them and proceed down through the staircases and walkways. Once you’re at the lowest level you will be told the Rocks Are Resonating, make sure you have your strongest character in the middle of your party as Ultima Weapon will kill the other 2 as soon as the fight starts.
Use draw Immediately as the fight starts, Eden has a 100% draw success rate, once acquired your Trophy will unlock. If Ultima Weapon kills you you’ll still have your trophy but no Eden, come back when you’re stronger to take down Ultima Weapon if you’d like the Eden GF.
End of Game
Finish the game
Finish the main story of FFVIII to unlock this trophy, make sure your characters are a very high level before making your way to the Lunatic Pandora. You’ll make your way to Ultimecia’s Castle whereby all of your abilities will become unusable, you need to fight a series of very strong enemies to unlock your abilities.
The fight against Ultimecia is a very long uphill battle against several different versions of Ultimecia and her GF Greiver. Ensure you have plenty of life magic as you’re going to need it. Providing, of course, you have access to your magic again. Once all iterations of Ultimecia have been defeated your Trophy will unlock
Diablos
Unlock Guardian Force Diablos
You have 1 opportunity to acquire this simply brutal GF. Fortunately, it’s very early in the game. Once you and your team are tasked with setting off for Timber, you’ll know you’re in the right area when Zell has his Hover-Board confiscated. Once all of the dialogue has been exhausted, talk to Headmaster Cid once more and he’ll give you the Magical Lamp.
Proceed out to the world map, save your game and if you’re confident in your abilities and level use the Magical Lamp. Defeat Diablos to unlock him as a GF and unlock your Trophy.
Bahamut
Unlock Guardian Force Bahamut
Once you’ve acquired the Ragnarok save your game and then proceed the South West corner of your World map, you’ll find a heavily damaged Oil Rig, land here and get ready for a serious challenge!. Proceed inside the building, now for the important bit, you’ll see a large machine over to your right, when that resonates Bright White. Do Not Move or you’ll be thrown into a fight, whilst the fight isn’t difficult, you’re going to need to save your strength for what’s coming, when the light resonates off, you can move. Check the video below for a visual reference of this.
Once you’ve made your way to the machine you’ll be spoken to and you need to answer questions in a specific way, as follows: “So You Wish To Challenge Me!?” You Answer “It’s Not Our Will To Fight“.
Defeat The Ruby Dragon (mandatory) then answer: “Begging Me For Mercy” You Answer “Never“.
Defeat the second Ruby Dragon (mandatory) before answering: “Damned Imbeciles Why Do You Wish To Fight?“. You Answer with the third option which is hidden. This will then start the fight against Bahamut. Ensure you use healing items, GF and limit breaks. Providing you’re levelled up, you shouldn’t have that much difficulty defeating Bahamut and unlocking your Trophy.
Ragnarok
Find Ragnarok
You’ll acquire the Ragnarok through story progression, once you’re far enough through the story, you’ll be in space. Once aboard the Ragnarok you’ll need to clear put the aliens on board, they are in pairs according to colours, kill both enemies of the same colour in a row and you’ll be back on the planet soon enough. You can now access all of the World map gaining access to the strongest Guardian Forces. Once you’re on the bridge with your entire team reunited your Trophy will unlock.
