Here is the Final Fantasy VIII Remastered Cards Club Master Trophy Guide. The CC Group is an elite group of Balamb Garden staff / students who you will have to win a game of Triple Triad against. There are 7 members of the Card Club, now for me I left this as my final trophy for the Platinum as you’ll pick up some fairly good cards along the way, chief among which, Eden & Bahamut. Player cards are very useful here also, the 3 easiest ones to acquire are:
- Zell: Challenge Zell’s Mother in Balamb.
- Quistis: Go to the Balamb Garden Cafeteria then talk to the couple sitting at the table and challenge the guy at the back of the table.
- Selphie: Go to Trabia Garden then challenge the lady sitting on the fountain.
One of the biggest problems with the card game in FFVIII is the rules that can be put in place as you play throughout different regions. The worst rules you can have are Random & Plus. If, in Balamb Garden, these rules are present go to any other continent and play a game with different rules, then return to Balamb Garden until the rules you don’t want are abolished. As a final part of the setup process, you need to have played a minimum of 15 card games in Balamb Garden against any random NPC.
Ensure before you go looking for the Card Club Members you have made a separate save and a back up of that save as losing matches, will mean you lose your strongest cards making this trophy very problematic to unlock.
Cards Club Opponent
Now that you have your cards ready and you have the rules in place you want to play with we can start finding and defeating the CC Group 1 by 1.
Jack
First up is Jack, you can find him walking around the terminal in the main foyer area of Garden, challenge him with Square to begin the card match. It doesn’t matter how many times you lose / draw you only need to win once.
Knight Club
Next up is Knight Club, he will be in the Northernmost section of the circular walkway on the ground floor of Garden. Walkout from where your dorm room is and he’ll appear soon enough, win the match and we can move on.
Princess Diamond
Princess Diamond are 2 girls that walk up to the main terminal in the foyer area of Garden. Wait for them to stop walking then challenge them. Ensure you have saved your game before challenging Princess Diamond as she has some very strong cards. Win the match to continue this side quest.
Magician Joker
With 3 Card Club members defeated you can now go after Magician Joker, he’s a random spawning NPC in the Training Centre area of Garden. Make your way to the end of the green path and take the door on the right, if he has spawned he’ll be on the jetty. If not, leave back through the door and return to the jetty, after 2 or 3 attempts he will have appeared. Once he’s been defeated make sure you save as the next member has some seriously powerful Cards.
Prince Spade
Now you’re over halfway through this side quest, it’s time to go after the top tier of the Card Club, starting with Prince Spade, he can be found on the 2nd floor walkway, and is the NPC who gave you your cards at the very start of the game. Prince Spade, can be quite challenging, he has a lot of high-level cards, but play defensively, reloading your save after a loss and you’ll have him defeated soon enough.
Queen Hearts
Make your way to the 3rd floor and go all the way up to the Bridge. Challenge Xu, who turns out to be the Queen Hearts. She is very tough to win against, but employ the same strategy you have used to get this far and you should be able to take the win soon enough.
Master King
!!Ensure you save before the next stage!!
To make the Master King appear, you will need to go to the infirmary and speak with Dr. Kadowaki who will inform you, she used to be the King but has since passed the title over to a young lady. Once this dialogue has been completed, go back to your dormitory and rest. You will then be challenged by the King, who turns out to be… an unexpected opponent. Defeat the King to complete the Cards Club Master sidequest, unlocking your Trophy.
