Obel Lake Sidequest
You can complete the Obel Lake sidequest once you’ve acquired the Ragnarok, I’ll break this down into 10 steps to make the side quest more manageable.
Step 1
Make your way to Timber, then go to the lake opposite on the World map, you need to select the option Try Humming until you hear about Mr. Monkey. After this select Throw A Rock and do this until you see the message the “Rock Skipped Many, Many Times“.
Step 2
Mr. Monkey can be found in the forest West of Dollet. Once you find Mr. Monkey, throw a rock at him and do this until Mr. Monkey throws a rock back at you with the letters (URHAEO).
Step 3
After this go back to Obel Lake and speak to the Shadow again, it will then give you a series of clues, you need to see all of these to progress.
Step 4
“You’ll Find Something On An Island East Of Timber, too.“. Go to the small island just off the Timber coast near the bridge to Fisherman’s Horizon, you’ll find the rock (REAIDR).
Step 5
“At The Beach In Balamb, Something Special Washes Ashore At Times“. Go to Balamb Island and search the beach, you’ll find a lot of standard rocks, eventually you’ll find one that has the markings (STSLRM).
Step 6
“There’s Also Something On Top Of A Mountain With A Lake And A Cavern“. Go to a river flowing to Galbadia Garden, follow this upstream until you find a cavern on the side of a mountain where the river has come from, land on top of the mountain.
You will see a message saying “A Bird Is Warming An Egg“. Choose “Check It Out“. Where you will then battle 2 Thrustaevis. After the battle you’ll receive the rock inscribed (EASNPD).
Step 7
Once you have all 4 rocks, go back to Obel Lake where all 4 rocks will appear on screen the message will read:
[STSLRM] [URHAEO] [REAIDR] [EASNPD].
Read it from top right to bottom left it will say MORDRED PLAINS HAS TREASURE.
Step 8
Fly to Mordred Plains, North West of Esthar. You will need to “speak” to the rocks here, ignore the white, black and blue rocks. You want the red rocks, these will point you in the direction of your treasure. Now it’s very important to talk to the red rocks until they’ve given you 2 directions, the red rocks are liars though.
If the rock says “The Treasure’s To The North!” + “The Treasure Is To The West!” What that actually means is the treasure is to the South and East go the opposite way the red rocks tell you and eventually you’ll find a message saying “The Treasure’s Not Here!“. Click again and you’ll find the treasure which will be a Three Stars.
Step 9
That’s part 1 done… Now go back to Obel Lake, hum at the shadow again and eventually it’ll tell you:
“Oh Yeah, Do You Know What? Take Some Time Off At EldBeak Peninsula. I Bet It’s A Wonderful Place“.
Step 10
Eldbeak Peninsula is located on the Trabia Continent, go right to the tip of the Peninsula where you’ll get a message; “T R E T I M E A S U R E A T M I N O F F D E I S L A N D” which translates to Treasure At Minde Island. Minde Island is located between Kashkabalad Desert and Esthar’s Southwest coast. Go to this island and you’ll find a LUCK-J scroll where you will then complete the Obel Lake side quest, unlocking your Trophy.
