Kayak VR: Mirage Trophy Guide

Welcome to the Kayak VR: Mirage trophy guide which will help you travel the World in your Kayak as you pursue greatness. This is a beautifully rendered game you have to experience rather than play.

  • Platforms: PlayStation 5, PS VR2.
  • Trophies: 31: Platinum: 1, Gold: 6, Silver: 10, Bronze: 14.
  • Release Date: 8th July 2021.
  • Missable: None.
  • Glitched: None.
  • Online: None.
  • Difficulty Rating: 6/10.
  • Approx. time to 100%: Around 12 Hours if you focus, longer if you take in the scenery.

Stage 1: Tutorial and Beginner Races
At the start of the game, you should get used to the mechanics and physics that are used to row around. There are ten lessons that will teach you the basics of paddling and movement. Once you get that down, you can then try to complete the two easy race trophies in this stage.

Stage 2: Miscellaneous Trophies
All these trophies can be earned in any order, and you will be jumping from map to map getting all of them. Don’t worry about sticking to one map and earning them all, as the maps are easily replayable. All of these trophies are miscellaneous tasks, so start ticking off these and you’ll have them done in no time.

Stage 3: Complete Hard Tracks
These two tracks (especially King of King’s Canyon) can be very difficult and require a lot of practice, stamina, and strength. Read up on the How to Kayak Efficiently section, and you can learn complete both these tracks within a few hours.

Stage 4: Grind to 100 Kilometers
This last section will be a little mind-numbing. In total, you will need to kayak 100 kilometers across all maps. There is no quick or simple way to do this. Refer to Sea Veteran for more information.

How To Kayak Efficiently

Kayaking in this game can be rough to get ahold of, especially for the races. The boat sometimes drifts in random directions, your paddle gets caught on things. It can get frustrating quickly because the realistic physics can damper the gameplay. This section hopefully will help you correct your mistakes and get you kayaking efficiently!

  • How to Row Quickly
The best way to row quickly is to have your hands close together, and quickly rotate your wrists, as if you’re peddling a bike with your hands. Your paddle will make quick rotations for every time you rotate, and should hopefully get you going quick. Have your hands about chest level, so they don’t hit the kayak, and get somewhat deep into the water. Try to keep your hands the same distance from the center to make sure the paddles are equal.
  • How to Turn
To make quick and sharp turns, you will need to jut your paddle deep in the water the same side you want to turn. Depending on how fast you are going, this can turn you completely around. Bring both your hands over to the side so the paddle doesn’t get caught on the kayak. For smaller turns, you can hold your paddle in the water a little bit while coasting forward. The deeper you put it in, the sharper you’ll turn.
  • Where to Position Yourself
The best place to position yourself is probably a foot or so forward. Calibrate your camera and take a step/scoot forward so your head is above the front part of the seat of the kayak. Make sure your hands won’t leave the play area if you stick them out.
This game can be played either sitting or standing. Neither seem to have much of a difference.
  • Taking Breaks/Stretching
This game can be quite the workout for your shoulders, more specifically your deltoids. If you are having problems keeping up the pace, or your arms feel really heavy, it might be time to take a break and stretch. The correct stretch for your deltoids is to take your arm, put your elbow straight up into the air, and touch your opposite shoulder (with your forearm behind your head). You can then pull your arm with your other hand to stretch it further. Doing this before the play session is smart so you can play for longer.

After a short bit through the cave, take the small entrance to the open lake.

Once you reach the open lake, head towards the fallen iceberg. It will reveal a new path.

After a short bit through the path, take the path to the right.

Kayak VR Mirage King of King's Canyon trophy
PlayStation Gold Trophy

King of King’s Canyon
Become the King of King’s Canyon by getting a gold medal on the Olympic track

This is the hardest trophy in the game. The King’s Canyon Olympic track can be found on the pause menu, when scrolling through King’s Canyon races, it’s the last one. This race is a combination of endurance, strength, memory, and agility. To get a gold medal you need to complete this track in 2 minutes, 27 seconds.

Here are some tips to help complete this track to a gold medal:

  • Use the stream to your advantage. The water will always be flowing one direction. When going down the stream, you will be boosted forward. The unfortunate side of this is you’ll have to paddle upstream too.
The best way to do this is to face a direction upstream, and paddle as fast as you can, and when you have a bit of speed you can then turn. Read up on the How to Kayak Efficiently section for all the best tips to get more speed.
  • Memorize the route, and be careful of penalties. The track has several parts where you need to turn around to go upstream, so you need to memorize the pattern (one U-turn and then a figure-8).
Try your best to not get any penalties for hitting the poles, as it can easily add 10+ seconds to your time.
  • You can pass through checkpoints while paused. This is especially helpful for the two checkpoints where you need to quickly turn around at the end. If you get close enough you can pause the game, and move your head to pass through the checkpoint, and you will hear the ding.
This is detailed and shown in the video.
  • Use the “Reset Kayak” button after checkpoints 5, 10 and 16. Resetting your kayak will flip your kayak to be facing downstream. When you enter those three checkpoints, the game wants you to make a wide turn around to start paddling downstream again.
If you reset your kayak, you don’t need to turn yourself around and will save a few seconds. This is detailed and shown in the video.

Depending on skill level, this track can take you anywhere from and hour to multiple hours. Watch the video below for an in-depth breakdown of this track then when you have the gold medal you will unlock King of King’s Canyon.

Kayak VR Mirage Sea Veteran trophy
PlayStation Gold Trophy

Sea Veteran
Kayak for 100km in total

This will no doubt be the last trophy you need. After you complete all the other trophies, you will probably have kayaked 40 to 50 kilometers. This means you have quite the grind ahead. You can check your total distance kayaked in the top-right of the pause menu.

The key to grinding kilometers is not speed, but pacing yourself. If you keep a nice, steady pace, you can easily rack up more distance than if you burn yourself out. This varies person to person, but the average person should be able to keep up 20km/hour. If you keep that speed up, you should only have to grind three hours. Check out the How to Kayak Efficiently section to make this easiest for long periods of time.

Find an open spot that you won’t crash into anything, and just mindlessly paddle forward. If you enjoy the sightseeing, go to your favourite map and look around. Time moves much quicker if you are having fun. Once you go over the 100km target you will unlock Sea Veteran.
