Genre: Action Adventure.

Few things defined my gaming childhood more than Metal Gear Solid which for me was a life defining experience taking a single man through an impossible struggle and coming out victorious on the other side. The original Metal Gear Solid may have come out in 1987 when I was just 3 years old on the Commodore 64, but for me the first time I experienced Metal Gear Solid, like many of us, was on the original PlayStation in 1997 when I was laid up in hospital for 6 months.

I was allowed on the PlayStation for an hour a day and it was the one thing which helped get me through my treatment I was having and the surgery I was recovering from, the thing that spurred me on was getting back to the TV in the recreation room, grabbing the controller and sitting there immersed for my 60 minutes of action as I tried to sneak past the enemies with their small cone of vision on the mini-map, knocking then hiding where I could run around only to fail and be shot dead sending me back to the start of the game again.

When I finally got home, my Mother said I can have 1 game as a treat for recovering, I didn’t even take a breath before asking for Metal Gear which about 2 weeks later was waiting for me on my bed when I came home from school. I spent every waking hour transfixed by Snake, a single badass who could shoot down a HIND, defeat an opponent who could read his mind unless you used controller port 2, take on his Brother and win (I have an older brother I could never beat) and be completely proficient at despatching his foes in CQB or firearms contacts without even breaking a sweat.

Why am I telling you all this? During the PlayStation Showcase which aired on the 24th May 2023 it was revealed that we are going to be getting Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater coming to PlayStation 5, there was then a black screen and for a few glorious seconds, it was revealed the Metal Gear Solid collection was also coming to PS5 with the Metal Gear Solid I was so immersed in as well as my second favourite game of all time: Metal Gear Solid 2, Son’s of Liberty where you play as not only Snake, but Raiden as well who, whilst doesn’t present himself in the same way Snake does, can still kick some serious ass along the way.

We also have a confirmed release date for the Metal Gear Solid Collection and it’s coming in 2023. Just check out this incredible looking trailer for Metal Gear Solid Snake Eater and if these graphics are anything to go by, us Gamers are in for a serious treat this year!
