Welcome to the Mortal Kombat 1 guide which will help you through the reboot of the beloved franchise, Mortal Kombat. The game itself is fairly simple to run through as long as you have a strong stomach as they have turned the gore up a notch from the previous entry, Mortal Kombat 11.

Missable: None, everything is replayable.
Glitched:1: The Mighty Have Fallen (Not glitched a such but it’s currently unobtainable from what I gather).

You have a fair amount to do throughout Mortal Kombat 1 with the majority of the game being based in the new Invasions mode which sees you going through a series of Mesa’s (biomes) working through a series of tiles taking down a lot of enemies along the way. Most fights in Invasions mode are one round fights some of which have modifiers such as energy balls, fire storms and acid traps etc. Throughout Invasions mode (Main Menu> Kampaign> Invasions) you will be able to unlock the following:

As you can see, Invasions mode is where you will spend the majority of your time. You then have Online mode (Main Menu> Versus> Online) where you can unlock:

The one you should focus on the from the very start of the game is Rollin’ With My Krew as by the time you have done everything else in the game, you probably won’t even be 20% of the way through this one as achieving Mastery with a Kameo kharacter is a serious grind as they receive less XP than your regular fighters and there’s no real way of boosting it that makes any noticeable difference when you look at time> XP ratios.

Get the Kameo specific ones unlocked then just focus on 1 Kameo khaaracter, using them for everything until you reach level 15 with that Kameo then move on to the next one until you have 5 Kameo kharacters mastery levels levels achieved. Finally, I have run through the game several times so far and I cannot for the life of me of me find out what a Titan Battle is which is required to unlock:

The Mighty Have Fallen.

If anyone knows what a Titan Battle is and how to unlock one, please let me know either on Discord or X (Twitter). I’ll give you the kredit in the guide and link to your socials if you figure this one out as I’m stumped by it. It might just not be available yet and will be coming in a future update, however, this seems very odd if they have gone down that route. With everything above completed you will then unlock:

Become A Ninja In No Time
Komplete The Basic Tutorial

You will be prompted to go through the Basic Tutorial when you first load the game up, if you decline you can go: Main Menu> Learn> Tutorial> Basics then run through the very simple 5 tutorial sections which are:

Basic Movement and Attacks.
Blocking and Throws.
Special Moves and Kombo Attacks.
Kameo Attacks.
Super Meter and Fatal Blows.

With the Basic tutorial complete you will earn a nice 2,250 Koin along the way as well as learning the basics of Mortal Kombat 1.

Spend A Total Of 1 Hour In Practice

Practice is accessed by going: Main Menu> Learn> Practice. Choose a kharacter and an opponent then go through and idle for an hour after hitting your opponent at least once ensuring your controller stays on to have this one crossed off. You could also use the time to help perfect your fighting style with your favourite character(s).

The Cage mansion tutorial is the first area you will come to in Invasions (Main Menu> Kampaign> Invasions), work your way through the area defeating every opponent you come up against to the Portal tile. Go through the portal to access the hub area where you can see how many sections there are to conquer throughout Invasions.

Play 5 Kombat League Sets

This will be the lengthiest online requirement on your way to unlocking Kompletionist as you need to plat through 5 League Sets (Main Menu> Versus> Online> Ranked> Kombat League). A set is defined as a best of 5 series of matches which need to be played against the same opponent, however, it doesn’t matter if you win or lose so it might be worth finding an opponent then losing allowing them to win, selecting rematch, hoping they do the same then losing again 3 times in a row which will then count as 1 set having being completed.

The rematch option will change from rematch to friendly rematch which then defines that set as having been completed. Back out of the matches at this point then reload another league set and lose another 3 matches in a row. It sounds weird, but as this doesn’t appear to be boostable at launch at least, losing 3 in a row 5 times is the easiest way to get this done by far.

Deadly Assassin
Perform 20 Different Fatalities

There are 21 different kharacters you can access in the base game, each of these 21 have 2 fatalities so that’s 42 potential fatalities that can be used from the get go. Check out our Mortal Kombat 1 Fatality guide for how to perform all 42 fatalities where you will unlock this one when you’re not even halfway through the list.

Karnage
Perform 10 Different Brutalities

Brutalities are ordinarily performed by ensuring you do certain actions throughout the round(s) of a fight and are different to fatalities as rather than a button input you use after the fight, Brutalities are used to finish the fight. The easiest way to perform 10 different Brutalities will be to perform 3 uppercuts throughout a fight then, once your opponent has around 5-10% health left perform another successful uppercut this time holding down the buttons where you will decapitate your opponent. Ensure you do this with 10 separate kharacters which can be done in versus: Main Menu> Versus> Local> Very Easy.

Annihilation
Perform 10 Different Kameo Fatalities

Kameo fatalities are similar to regular fatalities as in you will need to input a given button sequence a certain distance away from your opponent once you have the “Finish Him” or “Finish Her” message appear on screen. Each of the 10 starting Kameo characters will have their own fatality they can use. Check out the Annihilation guide for how to perform each of the 10 base Kameo character fatalities.

Making Friends Is Easy
Use 10 Different Kameo Characters

Kameo Characters are selectable when you begin a fight and this is easily done in versus mode (Main Menu> Versus> Local> Very Easy). Select your Kharacter and opponent then choose 1 of the 10 Kameo characters available in the base game who are:

Cyrax.
Darrius.
Frost.
Goro,
Jax.
Kano.
Sareena.
Sektor.
Sonya.
Stryker.

Once in combat you can then bring your Kameo in to the fight from the start of the battle so ensure you do this for each of the 10 Kameo characters across 10 different battles to have this one done.

Komplete A Klassic Tower With 5 Different Characters

The Towers in Mortal Kombat 1 are accessed by going: Main Menu> Kampaign> Towers then choose a Tower which can be Novice all the way up to Champion (Endless and Survivor don’t technically end as you dying is the ending so they’re impossible to complete). Work your way through all of your opponents taking down everyone in the Tower. Do this 5 times ensuring you use 5 different kharacters.

Spend 10,000 Koins On The Shrine

You earn koins through a variety of methods in Mortal Kombat 1 such as completing the tutorials. You can then access the Shrine by going: Main Menu> Extras> Shrine where you can then spend 1,000 koins a time to randomize your rewards. Do this 10 times once you have amassed at least 10,000 koins.

Test Your Might
Komplete 5 Unique Test Your Might Encounters

As you progress through the Invasions mode (Main Menu> Kampaign> Invasions) you will, on occasion come to towers with TYM on the window rather than an actual fight. The objective is to either raise the bar on the left above the threshold near the top of the meter or raise the bar so it’s in between 2 points on the meter then press the right shoulder button.

You will need to to raise the meter by progressively pressing the 4 action buttons (PlayStation: Triangle, Square, Circle, Cross / Xbox: Y, X, B, A) continuously then press the right shoulder button as prompted on screen to strike the object on the altar. Do this throughout 5 different encounters to unlock Test Your Might.

Another one you can complete in Invasions which are accessed by going: Main Menu> Kampaign> Invasions then run through clicking on every tile you land on to see if there’s a fight. Complete 25 of these fights across 25 different tiles to unlock this one.

Dethrone A King

Another online one that is boostable thankfully so use our Discord if you’re struggling to find boosting partners or bring a friend along then go: Main Menu> Versus> Online> Private King Of The Hill the invite your friend or have them invite you. The King is defined as the host of the match so the player on the left side of the screen what would ordinarily be player 1 in a local match for example.

The player on the right side of the screen or Player 2 as it were will then need to win the match. It might take a few sessions to become player 2 as it appears to be random as to the placement, however, once you are fighting against player 1 rather than being player 1, win the match to have dethroned the King.

Komplete Mastery With 5 Kameo Characters

This one right here will be the grind to unlock Kompletionist as in order to komplete Mastery with 1 Kameo fighter will see you run through the entire Invasions mode (Main Menu> Kampaign> Invasions) then have to grind out fights in Towers (Main Menu> Kampaign> Towers) until you get to level 15 which is the Mastery level.

Ensure you always play through any fights with the same Kameo, Darrius for example as you need to focus on 1 Kameo then move on to another Kameo until you have obtained Mastery with 5 different Kameo kharacters. This will take you 10s of hours to achieve if you only focus on this and it will more than likely be the last one you need to unlock Kompletionist.

Where’s Blanche
Trade For An Item From An Outworld Shop

Outworld shops appear to be exactly the same as Earthrealm Shops with the Kollector being the vendor again. The setting seems to be the important factor here. I found Earthrealm shops in the Cage’s Mansion and Fengjiang Village Mesas, then, as I was progressing through the Sun Do Festival, I came across a Kollector who just so happened to be an Outworld shop. Keep progressing through Invasions mode (Main Menu> Kampaign> Invasions) interacting with the shops as you find them throughout the Mesas where, on an Outworld Mesa, a shop will be an Outworld Shop.

During Invasions you will come across the Kollector who is in a bedroom in Cage’s mansion shortly after starting, just follow the path around the mansion from the start where you will see this message on screen:

Go into the room and purchase any of the 3 konsumable’s you have the Krowns for.

Use A Talisman 10 Times

You will acquire a Talisman as you progress through the first Mesa, Cage’s Mansion. You will also then go through a tutorial on how to use a Talisman. As you progress through Invasions mode (Main menu> Kampaign> Invasions) you will unlock a good number of Talismans, I had 8 before I finished Fengjiang Village for example. You will be able to equip a Talisman by pressing (PlayStation) Triangle or (Xbox) Y, choosing Talisman in the bottom left of the screen then select any Talisman you can equip.

All Talismans will have charges which dictate the amount of times you can use a Talisman before it needs recharging (see Running On Empty for how to recharge Talismans). Using a Talisman is simply a case of pressing the right stick in the direction of your opponent where the Talisman will activate and you will then activate the Talisman ability be it an energy ball to hurt your opponent or a suit of ethereal armour to help negate some of the damage your opponent can inflict during a battle.

The offensive Talismans won’t need to land on your opponent, they can be dodged or blocked, it doesn’t matter as you will have still used the Talisman. You will more than likely need to recharge a Talisman a good few times. from what I’ve seen in game so far I have had a Talisman that has 2 charges and I’ve also had a Talisman with 4 charges so use all charges before recharging to make this quicker and easier. Once you have used a Talisman 10 times you will then unlock Talis-Mania.

Running On Empty
Recharge A Talisman

You will be able to find everything you need for finding, equipping and using Talismans which are found in Invasions mode (Main Menu> Kampaign> Invasions) by checking out the Talis-Mania guide. Once you have used a Talisman at least once (each Talisman has a number of charges you can use), you can then visit the Forge (Pause then select Forge or if Forge isn’t available, choose Mesa select then go back to a previous Mesa such as Cage’s Mansion or Fengjiang Village then select Forge). At the Forge, select Recharge Talisman then choose any Talisman that is missing at least 1 charge and choose to Recharge the Talisman which will cost a few hundred Krowns to do so where you will then unlock Running On Empty.

Forge A Talisman

Go: Main Menu> Kampaign, Invasions then head through Cage’s mansion to the “Super Sized” battle where you acquire the Hallway Keycard you need to progress. Instead of going back the way you came as you should, instead, go right. You will come to a room which has a Shokan forge inside of it. Go through the Talisman tutorial to unlock So Krafy at the end.

As you progress through Invasions (Main Menu> Kampaign> Invasions) you will gain XP for every successful tile you complete in any of the Mesa’s available. You can earn XP by replaying tiles and you will earn slightly more XP by kompleting Towers that appear, however, obtaining level 20 will require you to not only go through Invasions to the very end tile, you will also need to spend a good few hours grinding out XP in Invasions mode before you will reach level 20.

Not So Big Now, Are You??
Defeat A Mini Boss In Invasions

Progress through Invasion mode (Main Menu> Kampaign> Invasions) to the Fegjian Village then work your way through the tiles to the Kung Wow tile in Fengjiang Village. You will be fighting Kung Lao who has a powerful glow around him the entire fight making him take less damage and hit harder than usual, go in with the fighter you are most proficient with and take him down where he will then resurrect meaning you need to take him down again. Once Kung Lao has been defeated twice from the Kung Wow tile you will unlock Not So Big Now, Are You??.

Who Da Boss??
Defeat A Major Boss In Invasions

Progress through the Invasions mode (Main Menu> Kampaign> Invasions) to the Fengjiang Village then progress through to the penultimate tile: “Royally Pissed” where you will face off against Kitana in a 3 tier fight that can be tough. Kitana will have armour in the first 2 phases where she will then leave and you will have to avoid the energy blades that come both horizontally and vertically. Stand in the safe space for the vertical ones and jump forwards and backwards to avoid the horizontal ones once they get low enough to hit you rendering ducking no longer effective.

After you have survived the energy blades you will then, depending on your efficiency at dodging the blades either have a fairly normal fight or a very tough one as your health bar won’t refresh so being proficient at dodging the blades is key to success. Take all 3 phases of Kitana down to successfully defeat a Major Boss.

Defeat The Final Boss Of An Invasions Season

A Season in Invasions mode (Main Menu> Kampaign> Invasions) lasts for 50 days and will see you needing to go all the way through the Mesas following the green arrows as you go to get to the end of a given Mesa as quick as possible if you’re only here for the final boss. There are a lot of things you can unlock and acquire throughout the Invasions mode, most of which you will acquire through normal progress anyway, there are a few things off the beaten track but nothing that will prevent you from getting to the final boss.

One thing you need to be wary of is Invasions mode will take you roughly 15 hours to get through depending on how you get on with the many, many fights you’ll be working through so ensure you have the time to commit if you’re getting close to the end of a season as once the deadline has passed I believe all progress will automatically reset and you’ll be back at the start. That could be very irritating if you’re close to the final boss and you need a komplete redo. The 7 Mesas you need to work through are:

Cage’s Mansion.
Fengjiang Village.
Sun Do Festival.
Tarkatan Colony.
Shang Tsung’s Laboratory.
Living Forest.
Fire Temple.

In addition to the 7 main Mesa’s you will also have the Wu Shi Academy and the Gateway Portal, these aren’t required to progress through to the final boss so they can be ignored unless you feel like exploring just keep the 50 day timer in mind if you’re running short on time. Once you’re in the final Mesa, continue through to the end and get ready for a tough fight against Scorpion. Now the seasons may well change the locations and enemies you need to take on as you progress, however, this guide was made at launch so if there any updates, feel free to leave a comment below and let others know what they can expect.

The fight against Scorpion can be a nasty one as the fight is fought across 3 phases with a nasty chain trap section after the 2nd phase where you need to not be in the way of the chains when they explode so stand in a small gap where possible. Scorpion will then reappear and whatever health you have left is what you need to take him down with which means the fight can be a serious challenge or a fairly standard battle depending on how well you did against the chains. Ensure you pummel him at the start of the third round to remove that armour then the fight is fairly straight forward from there, after getting here, you shouldn’t have that many issues in taking Scorpion down, completing the Invasions mode when you do so.

Equip 3 Different Relics

You will earn Relics as you progress through Invasions mode (Main Menu> Kampaign> Invasions). Equipping them is simply a case of pressing PlayStation: Triangle / Xbox: Y to open your Loadout, go down to the bottom right tile for your Relic. Equip any Relic you have then go off and komplete another fight. Open your Loadout again, equip a different Relic and komplete another fight. Do this 3 times using 3 different Relics which can be done by the end of Fengjiang Village or throughout the rest of Invasions mode in a given Mesa.

Komplete A Titan Battle

I am unsure how to unlock this one currently as I have been through the game several times and I cannot, for the life of me, find out what or where a Titan Battle is located.

Use A Key

You will be able to use a key on the third spot of Invasions. When you start Invasions, you’ll be on the first spot, take down Baraka to obtain the key on the 2nd spot then use the key to open the doorway into Cage’s Mansion on the third.

Made It Out Alive
Komplete A Survival Encounter

Another one you can unlock in Invasions (Main Menu> Kampaign> Invasions. Progress through the tiles to the Survive tile you will come to after around 15 battles then change your kharacter to a blood elemental kharacter such as Nitara or Reiko. Jump over the low flying green orbs and duck under the higher orbs. You can do this with any kharacter, although a blood elemental kharacter will take significantly less damage making the survival encounter a lot easier to komplete.

Make Way, I’m Koming Through
Klear An Obstruction In Invasions

Progress through the Invasions mode (Main Menu> Kampaign> Invasions to the Ugly Me tile in Cage’s mansion. Take down Johnny Cage to then clear the bins out of the way from a previous area you will have passed earlier.

Found You
Unlock A Secret Fight

As you progress through Invasions mode (Main Menu> Kampaign> Invasions) you will, on occasion come to tiles that have Towers you can fight through. Every so often a Tower will have a secret fight that will appear after you have taken down the fighter on one of the floors. This appears to be random as to the tile it will appear on, although if you keep progressing through the invasions mode you will find a secret fight soon enough.

*Update*.
It appears you can access a Secret fight on any tile, I was on a standard tile in Fengjiang Village, took a fighter down then I had a Secret fight appear immediately after.

Stop Hiding
Survive An Ambush

As you progress through the Invasion mode you will be progressing from tile to tile. Every so often your kharacter will be running towards a new tile when the screen will shatter and you will be Ambushed. Kill every opponent that comes for you, for me there were 3 Assassin’s, however, this may be different for you then at the konclusion of the battle, as long as you’re the victor, you will unlock Stop Hiding.

Quest Master
Komplete 3 Daily Quests

You can access Daily Quests by going Main Menu> Player Menu (top left of the Main Menu screen accessible by pressing on PlayStation: Touchpad or on Xbox: Menu). Initially you will have a few steps you need to perform such as beginning Story mode (Main Menu> Kampaign> Story), spending 1,000 Koins at the Shrine (Main Menu> Extras> Shrine) etc.

With the initial, very simple quests kompleted, you will then be able to access the daily quests which can be as entering Practice Mode 5 times, performing a given number of Kameo fatalities (see Annihilation for how to perform these) or konnecting Mid or Overhead Attacks. Komplete any 3 daily quests to unlock Quest Master.

Working Overtime
Komplete A Weekly Quest

Follow the steps in Quest Master where you need to komplete the initial steps to unlock Daily Quests which also applies for Weekly Quests found in the same menu. Scroll down from the Daily Quests to the Weekly quests and focus on the simplest one which could be a case of dealing 10,000 damage which also unlocks Titan, Konnect 50 Uppercuts or komplete, not win, just komplete 25 fights to name a few examples. Komplete any weekly quest to unlock Working Overtime.

High Score, Is That Good?
Obtain A Total Score Of 5,000,000 In Gateway Towers

In order to successfully earn a score of 5,000,000 points, you will need a tower of at least 7 floors. As you progress through each floor you need to take down your opponent as efficiently as possible, preferably earning a Flawless Victory, although this isn’t essential. What is essential, however, is how you finish the fight. If you manage to finish every fight by successfully performing a Brutality you will earn a high multiplier for your final score providing you finished every fight with a Brutality.

You will be able to access the, The Gateway Mesa in Invasions mode (Main Menu> Kampaign> Invasions) once you have completed the 2nd Mesa, Fengjiang Village (With Cage’s Mansion being the first Mesa). Upon completing the Fengjiang Village Mesa, you will then be transported to the Sun Do Festival. Interact with the portal you just came through to then be able to access the Gateway Portal Mesa.

If you miss just one Brutality, leave the Tower and start again as you won’t receive the all important multiplier you need to push you over the 5 mil mark. The Towers themselves refresh daily as well as weekly so if there isn’t a tower with at least 7 floors, try again the next day through to the weekly refresh where there will be at least a 7 floor tower, then as long as you’re efficient in the fight whilst scoring Brutalities throughout every round you will score over 5 mil at the towers konclusion.

There Is No Knowledge That Is Not Power
Use 10 Konsumables

Konsumables are usable in Invasions mode (Main Menu> Kampaign> Invasions) and are purchasable from any shop you come to throughout the various Mesa’s you can work through in Invasions. The konsumables start off at 200 Krowns and go up from there. You can access the Konsumables menu by holding (PlayStation) Square / (Xbox) X then activating a given konsumable which will give you an advantage in the next fight you do during Invasions. You can win konsumables for kompleting certain fights as you progress so you should usually have a supply of konsumables so ensure you use 10 of them at any point when you’re able to.

Unlock 10 Tower Endings

You can play through Towers by going: Main Menu> Kampaign> Towers> Choose any of the first 3 Towers with the Novice Tower being the easiest. Play through the Tower to its konclusion with 10 different kharacters. There are 21 kharacters in the base game s you will have plenty of scope to unlock 10 endings. You can see the Tower endings you have unlocked by going: Main Menu> Extras> Kollection> Movies then as long as you have a movie available for a given kharacter that will be a Tower ending.

Seasonal Kredits are obtained in a variety of ways such as kompleting tiles and opening chests in Invasions mode (Main Menu> Kampaign> Invasions) or by kompleting Towers (Main Menu> Kampaign> Towers). For me, I went through Invasions mode as there is a lot to do for Mortal Kombat in that mode then by the time I had kompleted the 2nd Mesa, Fengjiang Village I had around 13,000 Seasonal Kredits which are different to the Koins and Krowns which are other forms of in game currency.

With at least 10k Seasonal Kredits obtained, go to the Main Menu and access the store (look on the bottom right of the main menu screen) then select Seasonal Items. Purchase any items for your preferred kharacter(s) until you have spent at least 10 grand. You won’t need to worry about equipping any of the items, purchasing them is enough to unlock Big Spender.

Perform A Taunt Without Being Interrupted During An Online Match

Performing a taunt is simply a case of pressing Down, Down, Down, Down during a match. The easiest kharacter to perform a taunt with is Johnny Cage so either try this in a public online match or set up a boosting session with a friend, have them stand still and perform your taunt. Return the favour for them so you can both have this one out of the way. We have a Discord specifically set up for Boosting sessions so work out timings with your peers and help each other through unlocking Total Disrespect.

Watch The Kredits

A nice easy one to unlock and you won’t even need to finish the story or even do a fight. Go Main Menu> Extras> Kollection> Kredits then sit back and watch who contributed towards making Mortal Kombat 1.

Change Your Kombat Kard Player Module

From the Main Menu press either the Touchpad on PlayStation or the Menu button on Xbox to access your Kombat Kard. Simply equip and kard you have available to have this one done and out of the way.
