In total, there are 47 dark realms across the entire game, you’ll know when you’re in the dark realm as the game takes on a black and white colour palette with minimal colour and you’ll be fighting some seriously powerful yokai as they grow in strength in the dark realm, fortunately, your own yokai abilities & yokai shift are a lot more powerful than they usually are when in the dark realm.
All you need to do to dispel the dark realm is kill an enemy / smash a crystal which has summoned the dark realm, once they’re down, every other enemy in the dark realm will be stunned for a few seconds.
You can see which missions you have dispelled the dark realm in by pressing on the mission selection screen.

The Village of Cursed Blossoms
Level 1, Main Mission, Awakening Region.
1 Dark Realm.
First Dark Realm
Head through the mission to the third shrine, head left into the building where you get the key allowing you to go through to the Mezuki boss fight, take out the Enki to dispel the dark realm.
The Beast Born of Smoke and Flames
Level 10, Main Mission, Awakening Region.
2 Dark Realms.
First Dark Realm
Make your way through the to the village where you will find a few Gaki, take them out then defeat the Enki to dispel the dark realm.
Second Dark Realm
Go up through the Forge to the top floor, defeat the large Gaki that spawns then kick the large water barrel down, extinguishing the flames, head down to the first floor of the Forge grabbing the Great Forge Key on your way down the drop down through the hole. Defeat the Ippon-Datara down here to dispel the dark realm.
The Viper's Sanctum
Level 24, Main Mission, Awakening Region.
3 Dark Realms.
First Dark Realm
Head left when you start the mission and go up the stairs taking care not to through the floor and defeat the Yoki to dispel the dark realm.
Second Dark Realm
Go up to the building pass the Sohoya just before you go down into the caves and defeat the Abberant Soldier to dispel the dark realm.
Third Dark Realm
Make your way down to the lowest level of the caves where the poison pools are, head all the way around the area then go through the final right you can take. Go pass the yokai to the back of the area through the poison pool and smash the Shirohami statue to dispel the dark realm.
The Hidden Monsters of Okehazama
Level 35, Main Mission, Soaring Region.
2 Dark Realms.
First Dark Realm
Go through the first cave system pass the Yamanba then take a left over the bridge into the dark realm, go through and take out the Enki before going up the ladder to dispel the dark realm.
Second Dark Realm
Proceed down through the cave systems pass the Nure-Onna yokai to the lower level where you will come out into the dark realm, defeat the One-eyed Oni to the left of the exit to dispel the dark realm.
The Mysterious One Night Castle
Level 43, Main Mission, Soaring Region.
3 Dark Realms.
First Dark Realm
From the start of the mission go through to the 2 Soldiers sitting under the small rock archway, then make a left down into the gulley where the dark realm will be. There will be a Waira coming down the hill, defeat it to dispel the dark realm.
Second Dark Realm
Head up through the area from the second shrine, cross the wooden bridge after dropping down then head up to the right to the building, go down the ramp and take out the Karasu Tengu to dispel the dark realm.
Third Dark Realm
Once you’re out of the area where you dispelled the Second Dark Realm, go forward then take the first left, head up over the stone bridge and take out the Enki to dispel the dark realm.
The Hollow Fortress
Level 50, Main Mission, Soaring Region.
2 Dark Realms.
First Dark Realm
Proceed through the mission to the elevator, ride it up then make your way down through the levels where will face a Rokurokubi. Defeat it to dispel the dark realm.
Second Dark Realm
Head through the mission to where the Snowclops will be at the top of the stairs to the Temple, go into the Temple then around then down the stairs, take out the Enki and head to the back of the room where a Koroka will spawn. Defeat the Koroka to dispel the dark realm.
A Way Out
Level 59, Main Mission, Shadow Region.
3 Dark Realms.
The first 2 dark realms are slightly unconventional as they require you to get caught in the spotlight that will be looking around then destroy the Tatarimokke (spotlight source) which will be a red glowing orb sending out homing souls to attack you.
First Dark Realm
Go through and up the first open area, get caught in the spotlight and head up to the ledge pass the Yamanba to be able to take down the Tatarimokke, dispelling the dark realm.
Second Dark Realm
Proceed down to the end of the path from the second shrine, get caught in the spotlight then head up around to the Tatarimokke, take it down to dispel the dark realm.
Third Dark Realm
Head down pass Mumyo into the village, at the back of the area near the Tatarimokke boss door will be a Mitsume Yazura, defeat it to dispel the dark realm.
Corpses and Ice
Level 65, Main Mission, Shadow Region.
3 Dark Realms.
First Dark Realm
From the start of the mission, go forward then take a right behind the building where a Soldier will ambush you with a sword. Head up the stairs behind the building, go up the stairs on your right and defeat the Enki to dispel the dark realm.
Second Dark Realm
Head up to through the building from the second shrine, go around the first floor then across the gangplank to the adjacent building into the dark realm. On the ground floor will be a Mitsume Yazura which you will need to defeat to dispel the dark realm.
Third Dark Realm
Cross the ice bridge pass the third shrine then head around to the left up the stairs pass the Mitsume Yazura and go into the dark realm. Smash the large blue amrita cluster just pass the Namahage in order to dispel the dark realm.
Bird in a Cage
Level 71, Main Mission, Shadow Region.
3 Dark Realms.
First Dark Realm
Head through the mission to where the Yoki sends an exploding barrel down the hill towards you. Go through, take out the Soldiers then go left in between 2 buildings on the left, head up the ramp where another Yoki will send an exploding barrel to you. At the top of the ramp will be the dark realm, go in and take out the Waira to dispel the dark realm.
Second Dark Realm
Make your way through to the second shrine, directly after will be the dark realm. Stay left where a Koroka will spawn near a Skeleton Warrior, defeat it to dispel the dark realm.
Third Dark Realm
Continue through to the third shrine then go right up the stairs, cross the red bridge into the dark realm. Defeat the Namahage to dispel the dark realm.
Pervading Waters
Level 75, Main Mission, Dawn Region.
2 Dark Realms.
First Dark Realm
Go into the building behind the second shrine, make your way around to the right then down the walkway. You need to smash the amrita lantern which is spawning thunderstorm Oni-bi yokai to dispel the dark realm.
Second Dark Realm
Head right from the third shrine, make your way through the courtyard then go into the Temple in the centre of the area. Defeat the Ubume to dispel the dark realm.
The Frenzied Blaze
Level 80, Main Mission, Dawn Region.
3 Dark Realms.
First Dark Realm
Go through the mission into the dark realm pass the Rokurokubi. Continue through the area where you will find a Koroka which you need to defeat to dispel the dark realm.
Second Dark Realm
Make your way up and across the rooftop with the Dwellers on, drop down and pass the NPC going straight rather than left to be in the dark realm. At the back of the area will be a Wheelmonk you need to defeat to dispel the dark realm.
Third Dark Realm
Proceed through the mission to the final area before going through to the Kasha boss fight, go to the fourth shrine then turn around, go to the right side of the building in front of you then down the left in between the buildings.
You are looking for the Ippon-Datara which will be against the left wall, defeat the Ippon-Datara to dispel the dark realm.
The Sun Sets on Mount Tenno
Level 85, Main Mission, Dawn Region.
2 Dark Realms.
First Dark Realm
From the start of the mission, cross the wooden bridge in the camp then look left where you will find a Yoki, 2 Skeleton Warriors and a large amrita crystal. Smash the crystal to dispel the dark realm.
Second Dark Realm
Continue through the mission to the area pass the Onyudo in the main camp, head around pass the large Skeleton Warrior with an Axe to the dark realm. In here there will be a large red and large blue amrita crystal, smash both crystals to dispel the dark realm.
Ruin Draws Near
Level 88, Main Mission, Twilight Region.
4 Dark Realms.
First Dark Realm
From the start of the mission, go up the ladder then follow the staircase up to the dark realm, take out the large Skeleton Warrior with the Axe to dispel the dark realm.
Second Dark Realm
Head through the mission going down the stairs from the first dark realm. Go to the end of the end of the walkway then take a left, go right down the stairs opening the wooden doors at the bottom to come to the dark realm. Defeat the Koroka in the room to dispel the dark realm.
Third Dark Realm
Make your way back up the stairs from the Second Dark Realm, take a right into the next dark realm, defeat the Wheelmonk to dispel the dark realm.
Fourth Dark Realm
After you have defeated Maeda Toshiie and have received the Kitanosho Keep Key, head through to the dark realm. Make your way down to the ground floor then defeat the Ippon-Datara to dispel the dark realm.
The Two Faces of Hospitality
Level 91, Main Mission, Twilight Region.
2 Dark Realms.
First Dark Realm
Straight after the second shrine, go onto the bridge where you will need to defeat a series of yokai. The last 2 enemies will spawn the dark realm, defeat the Mitsume Yazura to dispel the dark realm.
Second Dark Realm
Cross the bridge after the second shrine then drop down after taking out the Soldiers into the gulley where the dark realm will be. Head left and take out the Yoki to dispel the dark realm.
The High-spirited Demon
Level 95, Main Mission, Twilight Region.
3 Dark Realms.
First Dark Realm
From the start of the mission, head down the slopes then take a right into the dark realm, pass the Karasu Tengu then stay right into a small building inside of which will be a Magatsu Warrior. Defeat it to dispel the dark realm.
Second Dark Realm
Cross the tree trunk bridge into an area where an NPC will spawn where there will be a large amrita cluster in the middle of the dark realm. Destroy the amrita cluster to dispel the dark realm.
Third Dark Realm
Proceed through the mission where you will come to the dark realm, there is a mezuki roaming around just pass it and a large amrita cluster in the centre of the dark realm area. Destroy the amrita cluster to dispel the dark realm.
The Mausoleum of Evil
Level 100, Main Mission, Dream Region.
2 Dark Realms.
First Dark Realm
Make your way through the mission lowering the water for the first time, go back through to the Temple where you previously smashed the amrita cluster to receive the Dragon God Jewel and drop down into the hole into the dark realm. Down here will be a Snowclops you need to defeat to dispel the dark realm.
Second Dark Realm
The third dark realm will be found after you have lowered the water for the third time, make your way back up to the top of the tower, then drop down one level. Turn around and make your way round to the right.
Drop down again into the dark realm where you need to activate the lever in turn the tower. Defeat the Namahage near the lever to dispel the dark realm.
The Golden Castle
Level 105, Main Mission, Dream Region.
3 Dark Realms.
First Dark Realm
After the Enenra boss fight, go up the stairs and out onto the rooftop into the dark realm. Around to the right will be a large amrita cluster. Destroy the amrita cluster to dispel the dark realm.
Second Dark Realm
From the second shrine, go out into the courtyard and smash the large amrita cluster to dispel the dark realm just before the Yatsu- no -Kami boss fight.
Third Dark Realm
Once you have defeated Kasha, make your way up the stairs then take a right into the dark realm. Smash the large amrita cluster at the back of the room to dispel to the dark realm.
Cherry Blossom Viewing in Daigo
Level 112, Main Mission, Dream Region.
1 Dark Realm.
Make your way through to the final amrita rock you need to smash in order to make the path appear which will lead you up to the Tokichiro / Kashin Koji boss fights. Smash the amrita rock to dispel the dark realm.
In The Eye of the Beholder
Level 114, Main Mission, Afterglow Region.
3 Dark Realms.
First Dark Realm
The first dark realm can be found in the tower in front of where the mission starts, drop down to the lowest level, use the lever to rotate the tower. Head out and around to the left to find a Magatsu Warrior which you need to defeat to dispel the dark realm.
Second Dark Realm
Once you have spun the tower using the lever, make your up and around dropping off the ledge to the platform below where a Gozuki will be. Defeat the Gozuki to dispel the dark realm.
Third Dark Realm
Proceed through the mission to where the Yoki fall out of their incubation tanks, go up and through the area where the dark realm and an Ubume will spawn. Defeat the Ubume to dispel the dark realm.
As soon as you have dispelled every instance of the dark realm throughout the entire game, your Trophy will then unlock.
