PlayStation Plus July 16th 2024 Update

Following a post on the PlayStation Blog, we can reveal the PlayStation Plus July 16th 2024 update will be bringing Remnant 2 and more to PS Plus Premium and Extra tiers. PlayStation Plus has had a beating lately with lack lustre games like Among Us and older titles most players have anyway like Borderlands 3 and NHL ’24 which is a bit niche and not very popular for those without deep pockets.
It would appear Sony have been listening to the criticism and have decided to come out swinging with their Premium and Extra updates for July with the outstanding Remnant 2 leading the charge along with several other hard hitters in the gaming World such as Crisis Core Final Fantasy VII Reunion and the greatly enhanced Jeanne d’Arc, a PSP original which has been revamped for the present generation.
Remnant 2 is a game we have covered in more depth than any other here at Griffin’s Gaming Guides and is one I highly recommend especially as it is a soulslike with difficulty options which can really allow players to perfect their playstyle before working through the harder difficulties for better rewards and more elusive gear which then makes you even more powerful as you work towards curing the Root from the various Worlds in a procedurally generated game that is as visually stunning as it is challenging. The full list of games you can find on Premium for PS Plus come July 16th 2024 is as follows:
Remnant 2
Platform(s): PlayStation 5.
Explore dense jungle Worlds, a barren moon or a Victorian blend of townsfolk and Fae before getting through the Labyrinth and ultimately resetting the entire galaxy in an attempt to purge the anomalies desecrating the very fabric of being. Wield all manner of weaponry from magical Bows to hard hitting Shotguns, Grenade Launchers to an Assault Rifle which shoots teeth to energy weapons and even a Handgun which can create a Nebula when fully charged.
Remnant 2 is far from an easy game, especially given the fact it is a procedurally generated experience meaning no 2 playthroughs are ever the same. There are always 2 different starting points at the start of the campaign across 3 different Worlds each with their own challenges and bosses for you to work through.
Refer to the Remnant 2 hub before jumping in and if you decide this is a game you want to experience I strongly recommend starting on Yaesha, The Forbidden Grove as this will give you the smoothest, easiest route to Adventure Mode where you can farm an areas over and over again as you attempt to uncover all of its secrets, weapons and bosses.
Crisis Core Final Fantasy Fantasy VII Reunion
Platform(s): PlayStation 4 + 5.
Take control of Zack in this outstanding prequel to the magnificent Final Fantasy 7 (the original) through a World of intrigue and mystery whilst working towards the ultimate goal of saving the planet paving the way for Cloud, Barret, Tifa and Aeris. Gone are the text bubbles from the original where you would need to read the equivalent of several large books worth of reading, instead we get fully voiced characters plus a good amount of quality of life improvements to help you stay focused on slaying your enemies.
Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord
Platform(s): PlayStation 4 + 5.
Have you ever dreamed of being in control of Medieval warfare? Maintaining troop morale whilst defining your goals and principles as a population whilst you combine strategy, management and RPG elements then Mount and Blade II: Bannerlord will be well worth a look. Work through epically large battles with 10’s or hundreds of men carving each other down as you attempt to purify your nation. If Army simulators are games you thrive on then you could do a lot worse than spending a few hours in the game which can easily immerse you into hundreds of hours of management to perfect your style.
The Jackbox Party Pack 9
Platform(s): PlayStation 4 + 5.
Get some friends round, sort out some drinks and food then chuck on The Jackbox Party Pack 9 for a decent evening’s entertainment as 1 person needs to own the game which then allows up 10 other people to remote in and join you regardless of if they’re in your living room or in another Country. Think of this one as trivia with jeopardy, get it right and you win, get it wrong and you will have done so in front of potentially 10,000 real people watching you as you play.
Pathfinder: Wrath Of The Righteous
Platform(s): PlayStation 4 + 5.
Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous is an incredibly large, in-depth game and one you will have a serious amount to do just to semi-understand what’s required of you as you slay Demon’s, embark on lengthy quests, work for hour after hour managing your resources, Army, enclave and skills. This is a game where you are rewarded for your time investment with an incredibly well put together experience which feels a lot more suited to PC than it does Console, that said, if you have a few hundred hours spare, they could be spent a lot worse than working through to this games’ conclusion if you can find it.
No More Heroes 3
Platform(s): PlayStation 4 + 5.
Join protagonist, Travis Touchdown as he slashes his way across the Galaxy all in the name of protecting his homeworld, Earth. This game has an indie art style which is charming as well as fast paced gameplay which is smooth as silk. The graphics leave a bit to be desired, however, when you pull off a perfect dodge, counter then riposte it does give you that tingly feeling of pride.
Travis Strikes Again: No More Heroes Complete Edition
Platform(s): PlayStation 4.
I am a big fan of old school games but this one is one for the completionists rather than the gamers, which is unfair to say but for me, in 2024, this is one that aims for the target before hitting the rim and bouncing off, given the fact we are getting No More Heroes 3, this instalment, for me at least simply stands as an advertisement for how far games can come along in a few years of development. Explore fairly barren areas, take down colourful blocky enemies and work towards the ultimate goal of not turning this game off in favour of the playing No More Heroes 3. If you’re addicted to Travis Touchdown though, this will satisfy the need for a while.
Deadcraft
Platform(s): PlayStation 4.
Deadcraft is a top-down RPG-esque game with a hybrid human-zombie protagonist with an energy management system that is frustrating at best and obtuse at its core with you needing to constantly return to your base to recharge before going back out, trying to get a bit further before needing to rest again. There are plenty of fetch quests to support this explore, return, rest, explore, return, rest gameplay mechanic but given the lacklustre combat and repetitive nature of the game you might prefer playing something else on the list.
Steep
Platform(s): PlayStation 4.
Race down the Alps on a snowboard at breakneck speed before crashing then ride down the mountain on your face. Pull off tricks to rack up your score as you attempt to beat your opposition. Got bored of snowboarding? Chuck on some skis or just wingsuit down the mountain being just a few feet off the deck whilst avoiding trees, snow drifts, rock and other players.
Job Simulator
Platforms(s): PS VR 2.
You will need a PS VR 2 headset to play this one then when you do you can play as a robot who is trying to learn how to job by performing different tasks. The game isn’t the newest and it doesn’t run on the greatest tech so it can definitely be surpassed by other VR games out there, however, it is nice they have added a VR game to the line up so if you have the peripherals load it up and let me know what you thought of it.
Summoner
Platform(s): PlayStation 4 + 5.
Summoner was originally released on PlayStation 2 back in 2002 and you can really feel that here. Join Joseph, a Demon Summoner who needs to stop an arisen evil that comes from summoning such monsters to the real World. Work on improving your powers thus giving you more control on how best to deal with those who hunt you.
Ratchet and Clank Size Matters
Platform(s): PlayStation 4 + 5.
Ratchet and Clank Size Matters was originally released on the PSP and now it has been given a facelift and is coming to PS4 and PS5 July 16. The Ratchet and Clank series has always been a well polished example of how a platformer should be played and this is no exception as you can wield ludicrous weapons, explore Clank’s mind and adventure through new Worlds as Ratchet seeks to eradicate those who would bring him and friends harm.
Jeanne d'Arc
Platform(s): PlayStation 4 + 5.
Learn to control your powers as Jeanne, a young lady who has the power of a Goddess placed around her wrist in this European escapade set in the 1400’s where Anglo-French relations were at an all time low during the infamous Hundred Years War. Do as the Oracle commands to progress through this adventure as you seek to foster peace for your homeland before war and death consumes the land.
That’s every game coming to PlayStation Plus in July, which one(s) will you be trying first?.
