Racing Champions is a budget, top down racing game which has some questionable controls if I’m being polite, if you remember the old top down racing games from the Mega Drive games the cars control fairly similar to those so this is a game you will need some patience for before going in. The game isn’t difficult but when the AI smash into you it can easily put you into the wall and there’s no chance of recovering any positions if that happens.

One thing which may help you get to grips with the game is by going: Main Menu> Options> Car Speed then move the slider all the way to the left. It won’t make a massive difference but it will help you not come last once you learn the controls.

There are 3 main disciplines for you to play as you work through the game which are Formula, Rally and Monster. Rally is by far the toughest as the cars are so fast with minimal grip, Monster is the easiest and Formula is middle of the road difficulty wise as the cars are fairly easy to control and given you’re on tarmac you have massively increased grip compared to the dirt surfaces the other 2 present you with.

Once you load the game up, learn the controls by working through the Grand Prix mode across all 3 disciplines where you can unlock the following trophies along the way:

With that all done you will have at least picked up some of the controls and how the vehicles handle which will help you work towards unlocking:

It is then simply a case of finishing the trophy list off by completing the remaining miscellaneous tasks which will help you unlock:

With all of the above trophies unlocked you will then be able to unlock:

  • Get ’em all.

To complete the Grand Prix you simply need to choose Grand Prix from the main menu then choose the following options: Ready Player 1> Races, 2> Laps, 1> Choose the discipline> Choose an available vehicle.

You then need to simply finish the both races, your position doesn’t matter as the controls aren’t the best you will more than likely come last or close to it but don’t worry as once you cross the line for the 2nd time you will then unlock Complete the Grand Prix.

Choose Grand Prix from the main menu then Select Rally as the discipline, all other settings can be however you like them but I recommend 2 races and 1 lap each to make this quicker.

Your finishing position won’t matter just as long as you cross the line so try and learn the controls along the way, once you do cross the line for the first time in a Rally event you will unlock Complete the Rally level.

Choose Grand Prix from the main menu then Select Monster as the discipline, all other settings can be however you like them but I recommend 2 races and 1 lap each to make this quicker.

Monster trucks aren’t the easiest to control so do your best to get towards the finish line then once you do cross the line you will unlock Complete the Monster level.

Racing Champions Complete the game with max AI and max laps trophy

Complete the game with max AI and max laps
Complete the game with max AI and max laps

This can be done in conjunction with Complete Free to Play so to get this done as easily as possible go: Main Menu> Free Play> Ready> Number of AI, 7> Number of Laps, 10 which are both the maximums available.

You then need to choose any of the 3 disciplines, for me I went for Monster as I prefer the courses but you do you, choose any car then finish the event in any position to unlock Complete the game with max AI and max laps which will take anywhere between 5 and 10 minutes depending on how well you get through the laps.

Racing Champions Don't finish last in Rally trophy
PlayStation Gold Trophy

Don’t finish last in Rally
Don’t finish last in Rally

You will need to firstly set up a Rally race so do this by going: Main Menu> Grand Prix> Ready> Races, 2> Laps, 1> Rally> I recommend choosing the Badger as it is a decent car with high speed for the long straights then enough power to get you out of a corner.

The Rally courses will see you needing to navigate through tight dirt courses with fast sweeping corners and given the aggression of the AI you might need a few attempts at getting this one completed so take your time to learn the controls and choose the best racing line ensuring you stay on the inside as much as you can to maintain a decent amount of speed throughout the turns to help you achieve any place above last.

Once you do achieve 7th place or above you will then unlock Don’t finish last in Rally.

You will need to firstly set up an F1 race so do this by going: Main Menu> Grand Prix> Ready> Races, 2> Laps, 1> Formula> I recommend choosing the Mongoose as it is a good all round F1 car with balanced handling and speed.

Depending on how well you pick up the controls will determine how many attempts this takes you, if you pick up the game easily you shouldn’t have many difficulties in achieving at least 7th place, however, 1 mistake and the AI will be virtually impossible to catch so restart if you spin out or hit any of the crash barriers.

Once you do achieve 7th place or above you will then unlock Don’t finish last in F1 once you cross the finish line.

Don’t finish last in Monster
Don’t finish last in Monster

You will need to firstly set up a Monster race so do this by going: Main Menu> Grand Prix> Ready> Races, 2> Laps, 1> Monster> I recommend choosing either the Hippo or Elephant as they are both well rounded Trucks suitable for beginners.

The Monster mode will see you needing to navigate a Monster Truck around a circuit filled with bumps and jumps as the AI do their best to hamper your progress. Try and take the inside line through the corners as well as you can to help you finish in any position above 8th.

Once you do achieve 7th place or above you will then unlock Don’t finish last in Monster once you cross the finish line.

Racing Champions Start track 2 in Monster trophy
PlayStation Gold Trophy

Start track 2 in Monster
Start track 2 in Monster

From the main menu choose Grand Prix> Ready> Races, 2> Laps, 1> Monster> Any truck then begin the event. You will need to cross the line on the first 2 races where you will then be put on the 2nd track in Monster which will unlock Start track 2 in Monster.

Note: I did need to do this 3 times before it actually worked then the game would randomly pause, I quit back to the Main Menu and the trophy randomly unlocked so if you do have any issues, keep at it and it should unlock soon enough.

If you are having issues, grab me over on Discord and I’ll see what can be done to help.
