Borderlands 4 Legendary Shields
Author: FuzionByte.

Borderlands 4 directory.
Here we will go over where you can find all of the Borderlands 4 Legendary Shields which are your main form of protection in Borderlands 4 and the developers have really done a number on these Shields, some of them are more powerful than your guns will be and others are a bit of a flop but for the most part the Legendary Shields are literal lifesavers. Legendaries are some of the best items you can equip in Borderlands 4 and for the most part they are incredibly powerful / useful items which can carry you through some of the tougher missions.
Bare in mind there are many variations of Shield but the base name will always be the same. The prefix will determine the type of attachments that a given Shield will have, you might have a completely different prefix which can lead to some confusion but ultimately the legendary itself will have varying levels of efficacy based on the prefix you receive.
Legendary Shields
The Legendary Shields I have managed to find in Borderlands 4 so far are:
Cindershelly
Location: RNG drop from Zed’s vending machines.
Ability: Glass, when damaged, grants a stack of Resolve that reduces damage taken by 2% per stack, up to 25 stacks. When the Energy Shield breaks, releases a Nova that deals 6,822 damage, with each stack of Resolve increasing the damage by +20%.
Brand: Order.
Synopsis: What can I say about the Cindershelly other than the fact it comes with a 20k capacity, reduces the overall damage you take by 2% up to 25 times so that’s by half when at max stack and then once it’s had enough and finally breaks, which will take some doing, will release a powerful Nova which deals over 85 THOUSAND damage. Forget every other shield (at the time of writing in the end game) and get one of these! Literal game changer.
Compleation
Location: RNG drop from the Meathead Riders at the, The Old Scrape Ripper Drill Site.
Ability: Sisyphusian: When armour Shield is fill, it instantly loses an armour segment.
Brand: Torgue.
Synopsis: The Compleation is a strange little Shield as once it’s full it will break, losing a segment which then, on the version I found at least send out 3 missiles which deal just under 4,500 damage. This is a mid tier Shield as the Firewerks does the damage a lot better and there are plenty of Shields with better protection.
Extra Medium
Location: RNG drop from the Primordial Guardian Inceptus boss found at the back of the Vault of Inceptus.
Ability: Nucleosynthesis, when energy Shield breaks or fills, it triggers a Nova that deals 4,851 damage.
Brand: Maliwan.
Synopsis: This is an incredibly useful shield as when it breaks it will send out a Nova which deals nearly 5k damage. It does have a very long recharge rate as a consequence but get yourself in amongst a pack of enemies then watch the blast shred them all. Not as effective against bosses as you usually won’t be close enough but for crowd control there’s few Shields that will do it better.
Firewerks
Location: RNG drop from the Splashzone story boss.
Ability: Bundled, On kill, spawns missiles that home in on nearby enemies and deal 71 damage each.
Brand: Torgue.
Synopsis: An incredibly useful Shield you can collect early on that sends missiles out to hunt down enemies when you kill an enemy meaning it can greatly enhance your damage output. Get one of these Shields then come back every 5-10 levels to get a better more up to date version. One of the best Shields in the game for boosting damage hands down.
Guardian Angel
Location: RNG chance to be item of the day in a Zed Vending Machine.
Ability: Wings of Grace, when equipped, grants faster revival from Fight for your Life. When Fight for your Life expires, grants 1 free Second Wind once every 300 seconds (5 minutes).
Brand: Daedalus.
Synopsis: The Guardian Angel is a God tier shield as it essentially gets you back up once every 5 minutes with you needing to kill an enemy so it’s perfect if you are getting overly zealous with your grenades or environmental hazards or if you are struggling to take down a tough boss with little to mobs around.
Heavyweight
Location: RNG chance to drop from Zed’s vending machines.
Ability: Bareknuckle, on melee hit, consume an armour segment to grant +100% melee damage. When armour Shield is empty, grants +50% melee damage.
Brand: Vladof.
Synopsis: If you are proficient and more importantly specced for melee combat this will be a good Shield for you to use as it will take a chunk from the Shield and use that to power the next melee attack you deliver. If your Shield is empty it gives you 50% melee damage with every melee hit so Rafa and Amon will do well here other than that though there’s not much use for it compared to the other Shields available.
Hoarder
Location: RNG drop from Horace.
Ability: Refreshments: On kill, 50% chance to spawn an Ammo Booster that instantly refills your Gun.
Brand: Vladof
Synopsis: The Hoarder is a really good Shield if you fire a gun which lets face it you will be doing for the majority of your time in combat. Even the most devout of melee builds will need to pull the trigger every so often and with this Shield once you kill anything there’s a 50/50 chance to get some ammo for your equipped gun. Very useful under for dealing damage this one, however, it’s not very good as Shields go.
Oak-Aged Cask
Location: RNG chance to drop from the Skull Orchid boss at the back of the Embossed Fault Auger Mine.
Ability: Vintage.
Brand: Jakobs.
Synopsis: The Oak-Aged Cask is a low-mid tier shield which doesn’t do much except in terms of defence and nothing in terms of offence. One for the collectors
Onion
Location: RNG chance to drop from Primordial Guardian Radix.
Ability: Shallot Shell: On armour segment break, grants immunity to damage for 2 seconds.
Brand: Jakobs.
Synopsis: The Onion Shield isn’t bad but it isn’t particularly good either. The hook is the Onion will give you complete Immunity for 2 seconds which is nice but it’s not ground breaking. 10 seconds would make this top tier but 2 seconds is just a bit pointless unless an enemy is hitting you with its best attack as soon as the segment breaks. Much more fun than function.
Pandoran Memento
Location: RNG chance to drop from the Ripper Queen story boss.
Ability: Psychosis, when damaged, grants +15% Elemental Resistance and +50% Resistance to the last damage type received for 5 seconds.
Brand: Maliwan.
Synopsis: A cracking good Shield which not only increases elemental resistance it also takes 50% of any normal damage be it melee or kinetic meaning you have a greater chance of staying alive for longer. If you don’t have a better Shield, the Pandoran Memento should be equipped as soon as you get one.
Principal
Location: RNG chance to drop from Zed’s Vending Machines.
Ability: Shield Boi, spawns a Sheild Boi when the last armour segment breaks.
Brand: TEDIORE.
Synopsis: I was sceptical of this Shield when I first got one but honestly it’s really good. The Shield comes with (for me at least) 2 sections which once broken spawns the Shield Boi which follows you around with a decent size shield which does a good job of stopping a lot of incoming projectiles. It won’t save you from a powerful attack / boss move but nothing I’ve found will. Against mobs though, this thing can keep you alive a lot longer than you might originally think.
Protean Cell
Location: RNG drop from the Golden Chest.
Ability: Direct Current: Ground slam to toggle this effect. While enabled, drains Shield over time to grant +40% bonus Shock damage, and damage taken passes through the Shield.
Brand: Order.
Synopsis: The Protean Cell is top shelf as it has an incredible capacity and you have the control as to when you want to activate the special ability which is done by double jumping then slamming down to the ground thus greatly increasing your Shock damage. All incoming damage then passes through the remains of your Shield until it discharges.
Super Soldier
Location: RNG drop from Vile Lictor.
Ability: Power Play: When Energy Shield fills, grants an Overshield. When Energy Shield is full, grants 35% fire rate, 25% movement speed and regens 1 ammo per second.
Brand: Daedalus.
Synopsis: The Super Soldier Shield is a God-tier Shield which gives you Overshield, increases your fire rate, movement speed and even regens ammo direct into your magazine!. Granted you need to make your way to the end game of Borderlands 4 to get one but once you’re there, don’t leave Vile Lictor’s arena until you have a Super Soldier. It just simplifies the game it’s that good!.
Timekeeper's New Shield
Location: RNG drop from the Timekeeper.
Ability: Bininu: When equipped, grants +7,436 maximum Health, +372% Health regeneration per second and reduces damage taken by 33%.
Brand: Tediore.
Synopsis: The Timekeeper’s New Shield… Isn’t a Shield, what it is, is a stat buff instead so yes you get a bit of damage reduction and a nice health regen but you don’t get all the benefits of a Shield as all damage just goes straight to your health bar. I think this Shield was a good idea on paper but in reality it’s just not on the same level as most other Shields in the game never mind legendary ones.
Watts 4 Dinner
Location: RNG chance to drop from the Primordial Guardian Inceptus boss.
Ability: Overshield Eater, when Energy Shields is active, enemies have a 12% chance to drop an Overshield when hit. When Overshield is also active, grants +25% Shock damage.
Brand: Ripper.
Synopsis: The Watts 4 Dinner shield is top tier if you are using a shock based weapon as it boosts damage considerably with the shock element, without a shock based weapon it’s still pretty decent with the Overshield but it falls out of top tier more being on the higher end of mid.
That’s all of the Borderlands 4 Legendary Shields I have found so far, do you know of any I’m missing? Let me know.
