Nioh is a fantastically difficult game brought to you by Team Ninja. If you’re looking for an easy, relaxing time then this game isn’t for you, however, if you’re looking for a rewardingly hardcore game that will push even hardened “Soulsborne” fans to the limit, then look no further. Nioh is a loot heavy action game that breaks up levels into individual missions that usually end with a brutally challenging boss battle.

NIOH You Are Nioh trophy
PS5 Platinum Trophy

You Are Nioh
Obtained all trophies.

NIOH A Long Journey Begins trophy
PlayStation Bronze Trophy

A Long Journey Begins
Completed “The Man with the Guardian Spirit”.

Complete the first mission in the game, when it comes to the boss, Derrick is essentially a test of your dodging skills. Dodge at the last second then punish him from behind. Once Derricks’ health has reduced to 50% he will transform into a Yokai state. Take him down where a cutscene will roll, after which your Trophy will unlock.

NIOH They Call Him Anjin trophy
PlayStation Bronze Trophy

They Call Him Anjin
Completed “Deep in the Shadows.”

This can be a painful mission due to the high powered yokai as well as the punishing boss Hino-Enma. She is very fast, can paralyse you and cause you a world of pain. Ensure you bring anti-paralytic needles with you to stave off the paralysis effects. She is weak to fire so make good use of that. Your guardian spirit can give her some decent damage. Just ensure she doesn’t grab hold of you as this can end an entire bar of guardian spirit very quickly. Once you have defeated Hino-Enma, your Trophy will unlock.

NIOH An Agreement Forged trophy
PlayStation Bronze Trophy

An Agreement Forged
Completed “The Ocean Roars Again.”

Take care as you make your way through this level as falling in the water will be an instant death. To make the boss fight against Umi-Bozu easier, light the 3 braziers around the level (see Keeper of the Flame for information on this). Once all 3 braziers have been lit, head through to the Umi-Bozu boss fight. Make very good use of any fire equipment you have as it is incredibly weak to it. Take very good care to not fall in the water when attacking the boss.

Also, Umi-Bozu has a very nasty energy beam that can easily kill you if you get caught in it so avoid this attack at all costs. Once the Umi-Bozu jumps onto the platform, activate your living weapon to hopefully finish it off. After it’s been defeated, your Trophy will unlock.

NIOH Wandering Spirit trophy
PlayStation Bronze Trophy

Wandering Spirit
Completed “The Demon of Mount Hiei.”

The boss in this mission is the White Tiger who you need to try and stay either to the side or behind of to avoid a lot of powerful attacks including swipes and lunges. Make good use of your living weapon as usual and you should have the kitty-cat back soon enough, unlocking your Trophy once the mission ends.

NIOH A Question of Intentions trophy
PlayStation Bronze Trophy

A Question of Intentions
Met with Tokugawa Ieyasu.

Please Note: If you skip the, Weight of the World Mission which is a 3 minute, non-replayable cutscene you will miss out on this trophy. The cutscene plays out after the mission, Memories of Death-Lilies and will unlock the mission, The Defiled Castle. Complete the mission Memories of Death-Lilies in the Tokai Region to unlock a mission called The Weight of the World which is a 3 minute, NON-REPLAYABLE cutscene. In order to “meet” Tokugawa Ieyasu, you will need to watch the entire cutscene, where your Trophy will then unlock once the cutscene has finished.

NIOH Onward to a Decisive Battle trophy
PlayStation Bronze Trophy

Onward to a Decisive Battle
Witnessed Tokugawa’s forces head toward a decisive battle.

Please Note: You will need to watch the cutscene at the end of the mission The Defiled Mountain to avoid missing this trophy. Once you have completed the A Defiled Castle mission, you will need to watch the ensuing cutscene that will load up the Sekigahara Region in order to unlock this trophy. If you skip the cutscene, you have a good chance of missing and glitching this trophy on your current save, meaning you will need to complete an entirely new save, starting the game from scratch. So ensure you watch the cutscenes to avoid a lot of wasted time and aggravation. At the conclusion of the cutscene, your Trophy will unlock.

NIOH The Battle Ends trophy
PlayStation Bronze Trophy

The Battle Ends
Completed “The Source of Evil.”

This can be a nasty mission given the amount of yokai you need to deal with, which include Onryoki as well as the main boss, Gasha Dokuro firing plasma blasts at you throughout the level. The key to this mission is taking out the red amrita clusters with the spikes given to you by the NPC near the start of the level. once you have taken them out (they’re mission markers on your minimap), head forward to face off against Gasha-Dokuro. This boss fight can be a challenge at first, however, once you know the strategy it’s simplified a great deal.

Hack away at either of it’s ankles until it falls down then head up and around near the top of the cliff-face where you will be able to access the boss’ critical spot on his head. So buff up and activate your living weapon and smash away until he stands back up. Rinse and repeat, ankles and head until he’s defeated. At the conclusion of the mission, your Trophy will unlock.

NIOH A True Samurai trophy
PlayStation Bronze Trophy

A True Samurai
Completed “The Samurai from Sawayama.”

This mission can be a bit of a pain given the maze like nature of the area. Your main objective is to go through and smash every amrita lantern as you make your way towards the The Dark Samurai boss. You will need to go to the lowest level of the caves, take out the One Eyed Oni then proceed up and around the spiral staircase. Careful on your way up here though as there is a large boulder that will roll down, killing you if you don’t dodge out of the way in time.

Once you get to the boss, ensure you have a good supply of elixirs as he can be a challenge given his speed and lightning based attacks which slow your movement speed considerably. Make good use of the size of the arena and bait him into charging at you, once he does charge, dodge then punish him from behind until he recovers. Take down the the Dark Samurai to unlock your Trophy.

NIOH Freedom Restored trophy
PlayStation Silver Trophy

Freedom Restored
Completed “The Demon King Revealed.”

This is easily the longest, toughest overall mission in the game. At the start of the mission you will have 2 powerful NPCs helping you out. Once you have made your way up and around through the armies of yokai, you will then be on your own after crossing the amrita bridge. Up here, there will be 4 doors to open each leading to a powerful boss you would have faced as you make your way through the main game. These are:

  • Onryoki.
  • Joro-Gumo.
  • Nue.
  • Oda Nobunaga.

All of which are a lot more powerful than the versions you would have defeated previously, fortunately, you can visit the shrine near the elevator in between each fight if you need to restock your elixirs (ensure you have farmed a lot of them for this mission). Once all 4 bosses have been defeated you can then use the elevator to get to the next boss, Oda Nobunaga, a very powerful, wind elemental boss who knows his way around a sword. Defeat Nobunaga then head up to face off against, Edward Kelley, who again, can be challenging given the fact he has a lot of range and a powerful living weapon of his own.

Take him out then the real fight starts. You will now need to take on and defeat Yamata-No-Orochi, a multi headed snake that uses every element in the game (1 for each head) The thing that makes this boss fight so difficult is the heads surround the rooftop you’re on meaning you can get attacked from behind without ever seeing it coming. Take your time with this fight as much as you can.

Wait for a head to smash into the building where you can then get some damage in. Blocking is fairly effective as long as you have the Ki for it and avoid the attacks at all costs. Once you have taken Yamata-No-Orichi down, you will then be on a beach. Proceed forward and interact with Kelley to complete the mission, unlocking your Trophy in the process.

NIOH Battle's End trophy
PlayStation Gold Trophy

Battle’s End
Completed “The Queen’s Eyes.”

You will be back in London for this mission. Ensure you are seriously levelled and you have as many buffs / Ninjitsu / Onmyo as you can as this mission is tough for one, or should I say 3 reasons. The Kelley clones which are fought near the end of the mission. These 3 clones are best dealt with one by one which is harder than it sounds. After you deal with the 2 Yoki yokai in the incubators, edge forward very slowly then using a ranged weapon, shoot the Kelley clone on the left first then run back to the door. Activate your living weapon and defeat it as soon as you can.

Then edge forward and aggro one of the clones to your right, this will cause 2 of them to come after you more often than not. Use the amrita canisters around the level to recharge your living weapon then take them out. Defeat the 3 clones where you will then move forward to the final boss, Hundred Eyes. This guy can summon floating eyes that shoot lasers at you all at once which can be devastating to your health bar. Sloth (Onmyo debuff) is a very effective way of dealing with Hundred Eyes as is fire magic so make good use of both of these. Take him out to unlock your Trophy.

NIOH Making Rounds trophy
PlayStation Bronze Trophy

Making Rounds
Made two circuits around Japan.

You will unlock this trophy by completing the game firstly on Way of the Samurai then again on Way of the Strong which is ng+ and can be accessed by pressing Square on the map twice to change the difficulty. You only need to complete the main missions on Way of the Strong for this trophy. Given the large increase in amrita you will receive on the harder difficulty, I recommend farming a good amount of levels early on making you more powerful giving you an easier time of in the latter game. Complete every main mission on Way of the Strong to unlock your Trophy.

The other player doesn’t need to be online and given the difficulty of NIOH, there will be a lot of players dying as you make your way through the game leaving a lot of red graves around for you to farm glory from. After you have farmed a good amount of glory, head to the Hidden Teahouse selecting Trade then Transform from the menu. Select any of the available characters to transform into, spending your glory. You can get this either offline or online depending on your preference, if playing online you need to summon another player from the Torii Gate (Starting Point, Torri Gate, Yokai Realm with a Companion) as long as the other play doesn’t disconnect until the mission is complete and you are both back at the map screen it will count. You can do this in any mission in the game that is available on the mission select screen.

If you are going for this offline, you will need to complete missions where you have an NPC along to help you through the entire mission such as A Request from Ginchiyo, level 21 sub mission. You are allowed to complete the same mission 10 times or complete 10 different missions, either way, complete 10 missions with either an NPC or online player to unlock your Trophy.

NIOH Master of Chaos trophy
PlayStation Bronze Trophy

Master of Chaos
Confused an enemy for the first time.

You will need to hurt an enemy with 2 different elements in quick succession that they aren’t immune to. For example, the Nue boss found in the, The Spirit Stone Slumbers, level 19 main mission in the Kyushu Region is a lightning elemental enemy so using water then fire would work well whereas lightning wouldn’t work. I recommend levelling up your magic stat to around 15 then in the Learn Skills menu, go to Onmyo Magic tab, choose the water talisman and the wind talisman then go to a shrine menu and select Ready Jutsu.

Press R1 to go to the Onmyo Magic tab and select one of each of the water and the wind talismans. Equip these in your shortcut menu next to each other to make the process quicker. From here, load up the Deep in the Shadows, level 12 main mission in the Kyushu Region and proceed through to the lower caves section. Down here there are several One-eyed Oni enemies. Use a water talisman and attack the One-eyed Oni then quickly use the wind talisman and attack the One-eyed Oni again where it should become confused, there’s not really a visual representation for the confusion, however, you’ll know when you’ve done it right as your Trophy will unlock.

NIOH Dungball Roller trophy
PlayStation Bronze Trophy

Dungball Roller
Became Ryunoshin the dung lover’s best friend.

Ryunoshin can be found in the, The Defiled Castle, level 87 main mission in the Tokai Region behind a cell door just before you go outside near the completion of the mission. In order to become Ryunoshins’ best friend you will need to offer him 30 dung balls which are items farmed from the Mudmen enemies in the same level. Mudmen can be farmed in the sewers and have a good chance of dropping dung balls which count as 1 dung ball or noble dungballs which count as 2 dungballs.

I recommend rather than offering Ryunoshin several dung balls at a time, wait until you have 30 dung balls in your inventory or 15 noble dungballs, a combination of both will suffice, for example you can offer 20 dung balls and 5 noble dung balls, giving you 30 dungballs in total as it is easy to lose track of how many dung balls you have offered Ryunoshin. Once you have offered him 30 dung balls total, your Trophy will then unlock.

NIOH Ugly Fellow trophy
PlayStation Bronze Trophy

Ugly Fellow
Used the mask of an ugly fellow to defeat an enemy.

The mask in question in the game is called an Hyottoko Mask and is easily acquired by completing the, Wreathed in Flame, level 13 sub mission found in the Kyushu Region. In order to defeat an enemy, add the Hyottoko Mask to one of your shortcuts (Touchpad, Equipment, add the Hyottoko Mask to any of the 16 available shortcut slots). Go to any weak enemy such as the first enemy in the Isle of Demons (level 5 main mission in the Kyushu Region), hit it once or twice depending on your power to bring its health bar down then use the Hyokkoto Mask to defeat the enemy. Once the stream of fire from the mask has defeated an enemy, your Trophy will unlock.

You will need to be in the, The Demon of Mount Hiei, level 62 main mission found in the Kinki Region. The Nue you will need to defeat can be found off to the left in a small gulley as you’re making your way up the final path on your way to the White Tiger boss. The Nue is a more powerful version of the Nue you would’ve fought earlier in the game, it still employs the same lightning and poison based attacks. Using Sloth (Onmyo debuff) trivialises this fight somewhat. Once the Nue has been taken down, your Trophy will unlock.

NIOH End Times trophy
PlayStation Bronze Trophy

End Times
Defeated Derrick the Executioner.

Derrick the Executioner is the first boss you will fight in NIOH during the Man With the Guardian Spirit main mission. However, a cutscene will play when he is down to 50% health meaning you are unable to kill him here. Continue through the game until you reach the final mission, The Queen’s Eyes which is a level 145 main mission found in the Omi Region. Head through the level going down into the Courtyard then into the building, heading down the stairs near the second shrine in the game. Derrick shouldn’t pose you any real difficulties, wait for him to attack, dodge his onslaught then punish him until he’s defeated where your Trophy will unlock.

That’s the Nioh Trophy Guide complete I hope it helps you through the game.
